Autodesk Pixlr for Mac review

Autodesk Pixlr has been a longtime online photo editing tool. Now, its maker has released a desktop application so that people who want to use Pixlr offline have that option available to them. The app provides a straightforward and easy-to-use photo editing process that even beginners should be comfortable with.

Pros

Accessible tools: Pixlr is very accessible and can be figured out by anyone, even if it is their very first time editing a photo.

Effect applications: In the modern age of Instagram and Facebook, filters and effects are all the rage for photos. Pixlr allows you to apply a variety of these types of effects that will look right at home with the trendy image styles on these platforms.

High-resolution outputs: The creation of a desktop application allows Pixlr to now offer high-resolution output of your work. If you want to apply these effects to photos you want to use professionally, this is a very welcome and needed feature.

Cons

Limited free options: Although it is not very expensive, Pixlr does reserve greater control and tools in the app for paid subscribers. You get full access to the masking tools only if you pay for the "Pro" level membership. There are actually three tiers of membership. The second tier requires registration, but no fee, and opens up more features than the basic version that comes included with the download.

Bottom Line

Pixlr is a very handy image editing tool. It is modern and helps create images that fit with the current trends. However, to really unlock the potential of the program, you will have to sign up for a subscription.
