Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the box. This week we got our hands on some of the DC Comics Painted Wooden Figures.

When I first saw these last year at New York Toy Fair, I was really intrigued. You don't really see many wooden toys these days. Everything is pretty much plastic. It should be noted these are made from eco-friendly wood.
As you can see, the package is simple. That reminds us of a simpler time before items needed a bunch of bells and whistles in order to get people to buy them. Opening the package up, you get an idea what's in side.
Each figure is sold separately. On the DC Collectibles website, the Superman figure is listed but it looks like it is currently sold out. You can add your email to be notified when their back in stock. Looking around online quickly, you can find the Superman figure HERE and the Batman figure HERE.
The figures come with two separate heads. They slipped out in the box in the pics above.
Let's look at Batman first.
The head is removable. You can rotate it a bit if you want.
There's just a simple design on the back. You can also see there's a little peg on the back of the heads to push it off. You can just grab it but the peg makes it even easier.
Believe it or not, there is some articulation. You can move the arms and writs. You can also move the figure at the waist.
You can also see the second head has a little bit of sass to it.
The third head shows Batman after a bit of a rough time.
Let's look at Superman now.
The figures are very similar. Same points of articulation and three different heads.
The back of Superman shows the S-emblem on his cape.
The second head gives Superman a little bit of an attitude.
The third head is really full of attitude. He's downright angry. Watch out for his heat vision!
These figures also have removable limbs. You can take the hands and arms off if you want to mix them up. You can also pull them apart at the waist. It's won't be super-easy for little kids but that's probably a good thing. They'll have no problems switching out the heads. The package does warn these are not for children under 3 years of age.
And of course the easiest thing to do is simply interchange the heads if you don't want to remove the limbs.
These figures definitely are something different. I couldn't tell you how many different Batman and Superman figures I have. I don't have any like this. That's what I really like. I'm sure some may scoff at their designs but I really like the simple elegance they have. They would look great on display as they would stand out and really get people wondering and talking.
You can also feel good and give them to the younger DC fans in your life. The paint might wear off over time with use but, what it comes down to, these are things that should be played with as well. Imagine the fun a young child could have with these.
