    Bachmann, Pawlenty debate conservative credentials

WASHINGTON (AP) — The campaigns of Republican presidential hopefuls Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty resumed their war of words Sunday, arguing via press release over which candidate has the stronger conservative credentials.

Minnesota Rep. Bachmann accused Pawlenty of supporting policies that are anathema to her tea party supporters, such as the individual mandate to buy health insurance and a "cap-and-trade" agreement to reduce greenhouse gases. And she slammed the former Minnesota governor for praising the federal government's 2008 bailout of banks, auto makers and insurers.

"I have fought against irresponsible spending while Governor Pawlenty was leaving a multi-billion-dollar budget mess in Minnesota," Bachmann added.

Pawlenty's campaign swiftly rejected Bachmann's claims, saying there is "very little difference" between the two candidates' positions.

However, Pawlenty spokesman Alex Conant said, "The difference is that when Governor Pawlenty was scoring conservative victories ... Congresswoman Bachmann was giving speeches and offering failed amendments, all while struggling mightily to hold onto the most Republican house seat in the state."

Earlier this month, Pawlenty raised Bachmann's ire when he called her record of accomplishment in Congress "nonexistent."

Bachmann argued again Sunday against that assessment, saying, "I have demonstrated leadership and the courage of my convictions to change Washington, stop wasteful spending, lower taxes, put Americans back to work and turn our economy around."

Later Sunday, Bachmann press secretary Alice Stewart reiterated her candidate's earlier remarks, saying, "There is very little difference between Governor Pawlenty's past positions and Barack Obama's positions on several critical issues facing Americans."

here is the issue with the republicans they don;t want to pass a tax break for the working people so that the rich can pay some extra tax and according to a lot of rich people such as Bill gates who said that passing tax break is not gonna hurt the rich because of the fact that they are already rich but the republicans don't want to do that because of the fact that either they are scared they may not get election money from the rich or they may burn bridges from the rich you figure it out it's all about looking after yourself don't matter who puts you into the office if the democrats don't fight amongst themselves to solve issues then the
democrats can control the white house but the problem with the democrats is that they support a union in which case they destroyed the economy in California in some cases the union seems to think that they are bigger than the government simple as that as long as the democrats are in the white house.

I am really sick of both of them and the tea party.

We should require both of them to take a comprehensive test on geography, the constitution, history, and economics before the press quotes one more word about who's "conservative." I have no more problem with conservatives than with liberals, my big problem is whether the candidate is STUPID.
      • James N 10 mths ago
Honestly, how many professional politicians could pass that test? On either side fo the political spectrum.

Congress needs a major down size. We really don't need to pay all those

people to make hard commonsense decisions. The house of reps is important but

the senate is entirely to large and makes it to difficult to hold all of them

resoponsable for making poor decisions. Give fewer people more power. Just a

suggestion but our state governors would be glad to add the voting

responsibility of the senate to their list of duties and they would be less

likely to abuse the power. Also that would cut an unnecessary expense from

        the federal budget
Governors know what their states need and could easily decide what federal

        expenses should cut "commonsense".
I think that I have a whole lot of great ideas but everyone else thinks the

same way. Concentrate the power and hold their feet to the fire, I guarantee

the right decisions would get made for fear of making obvious wrong

        decisions.
We the people are very smart, I am and you are. Some people a long time ago

didn't beleave so and they decided to take advantage of the system we call

government and started a trend, borrowing money to for things that were not

        necessarily needed.
The problem is congress that is in the pocket of unions and corporations that

control media, and that is a common problem on both sides, democrat and

republican. You the common citizen have little power to voice what you

believe and know what is right, such as NAFTA . Tell me that you really had a

say in the single most destructive act in the history of the USA. You see

that was in the past and not being talked about, the debt, deficit and the

lift of the ban on gays in the military is and all kinds of other news that

can shed the light of any issues they don't want to talk about.
Decisions people! They are not easy to make and apparently congress is not

capable. If I have to I will load my guns and defend this country from the

inside out. Hope more people in this country care as much as I do. All I have

to do is think of the hell they are making for my children and my blood

starts to boil. This can be done. Save the USA.

Why not write hot checks. They have basically been doing that for a long time

        anyways.
The only reason it is such a big deal now is the media. If media would have

decided to not report " as they do with other issues" congress would have

already passed some kind of pork filled law and continued business as usual.

The only difference between you writing a hot check and the USA doing it. You

get charged for the infraction and we all get charged with the infraction. We

are already being charged for so many hot checks, no body can tell you how

much we actually owe in penalties.
The problem is congress period. Governors should play a larger role in making

decisions on a national level and the senate should be fired, the whole lot

of them. How much would that shave off the deficit?
We the people should act on this. Kindly kill congress.

Kindly kill congress and give our state governors the power of the

        senate.Press the issue.
Bypass media and send chain mail to friends and family. Hand out letters to

people on the street, any thing that works to press the issue. Congress is

corrupt and they need to be disband.

Actually, niether of them is a conservative. Bachman is a neofascist theocrat, Pawlenty is just a neofascist oligarch. They both do a tremendous amount of damage to mankind, but rationalize it somewhat differently.

    • Darmok E. Jalad  •  10 mths ago
So Bachmann insults Pawlenty by saying he's fiscally irresponsible.
And Pawlenty insults himself by saying he's similar to Bachmann.

No way this guy's winning the Republican nomination.

At a time when the Republican Party is imploding, and in desperate need of some type of unity, these two screwups continue to snipe at each other over just how radical their individual ideaologies are, thereby demonstrating a serious lack of maturity and leadership ability. I love it!

A former patient who sought help from the Christian counseling clinic owned by Bachmann Inc. and her husband, Marcus, told ABC News he was advised that prayer could cure him of his homosexual urges and he could eventually be "re-oriented" and normal. One counselor's path for my therapy would be to read the Bible, pray to God that I would no longer be gay," said Andrew Ramirez, who was 17-years-old at the time he sought help from Bachmann & Associates in suburban Minneapolis in 2004. "And God would forgive me if I were straight."

How about a little back-and-forth about who has the most productive government experience? Bachmann, who's never introduced even one bill in Congress, or Pawlenty, who ran up a huge debt for Minnesota as Governor.

As a Minnesotan, I have had the displeasure of seeing both Tim Pawlenty and Michele Bachmann at their finest, which is dispacipally low. These two pathotical excuseses for politicians have created more hard during theeir careers than most that I have seen. If either are an example of what our furtue holds, then God help us all because we will surely need it.
The idology that spewes from their lips is biggotted, discriminatory and bold faced lies. Neither has the faintest idea of the what connecting with the working person means. They are so far out of touch with the average American, on wonders what planet they came from. How anyone with the least amount of intelligence can consider them as a leader of our nation scares me to the nth degree. Voters - OPEN UP YOUR EYES - and see the mess that you may end up creating. All I can suggest is - to run hard and fast in the oposite direction now!!
