'Back to the Future' fans mark the future's arrival

Marty! Doc! DeLoreans!

It may seem like just another Wednesday. But for legions of "Back to the Future" fans, Oct. 21, 2015, is the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown time-traveled to in their DeLorean in the classic 1985 film, setting the stage for the slightly less classic 1989 sequel, "Back to the Future II."

USA Today, which was prominently featured in the second film, recreated the front page from the movie, publishing it as a wraparound cover.

NBC's "Today" show and ABC's "Good Morning America" both had DeLoreans parked outside their Manhattan studios Wednesday morning.

The stars of "Back to the Future" reunited on "Today" to celebrate the film's 30th anniversary.

"I like to joke that one prediction that 'Back to the Future II' got right was that Marty McFly would have a receding hairline," Michael J. Fox said. "It's come true!"

Fox's charitable foundation promoted its mission to find a cure for Parkinson's disease, which the actor suffers from.

Businesses, like Olive Garden, used the occasion to promote their products. In this case, it was unlimited breadsticks.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio released a slick Web ad using the movie's premise to promote his Republican candidacy — and mock Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's bid as a return to the past.

More than one Twitter user pointed out a striking similarity between the film's stars and a pair of presidential hopefuls.

Others imagined what life would be like with a hoverboard.

The Michigan State Police staged a photo of the DeLorean pulled over by a state trooper.

"Michigan State Police troopers stopped a silver DeLorean today for driving 88 mph in a 55 mph zone," the state police wrote on its Facebook page. "The two occupants, Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly, were given a verbal warning to drive more safely on Michigan roads. Dr. Emmett Brown responded by saying, 'Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.'"

"Back to the Future" day was even celebrated on the red planet, where the Mars Curiosity Rover tweeted Doc's oft-quoted line from the first film.

And for those who weren't around when they came out, AMC Theatres is screening all three films from the "Back to the Future" trilogy Wednesday afternoon, beginning at the precise time that Marty and Doc arrive in the future.
