Bahamas police investigate cruise ship death

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Authorities in the Bahamas say a 26-year-old U.S. tourist has died aboard a Carnival cruise ship and the cruise has been delayed pending the investigation.

Bahamas police said in a statement Saturday that a man from South Carolina apparently jumped from one floor to another aboard the Carnival Fantasy ship that had docked in Nassau late Friday. He was declared dead at the scene.

Carnival issued a statement saying the guest apparently fell. They said the ship's visit to Freeport on Saturday has been canceled as the investigation continues.

Officials did not release the man's name or home town.

The ship departed Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday for a five-day Bahamas cruise. It is still scheduled to return to Charleston Monday.

I've been on a half dozen or so cruises, and I love them. But I have to stay away from the pools and activities where the drunks will be. They are so obnoxious when they think they're being cute or funny or having a good time. And don't dare say anything to them, because then you find out how you are the one with the problem, because you don't understand how entertaining sophomoric idiocy and vomiting really are.

You just about have to be trying in order to go over one of the rails on these ships. I'd be amazed to learn that this person died of anything other than his own stupidity.

OK, this is going to sound very callous and I'm sure to get thousands of thumbs down on this comment, but...(deep breath here...) All those people who spent THOUSANDS of dollars for a vacation, some of them, a trip of their lifetime. One individual decides to act like a fool, (if he truly did jump, mind you,) and everyone pays the price. I'm sorry, like I said, I know it sounds callous. But unless this was a bona fide accident, I would feel very UNsympathitic.

Carnival is getting alot of bad press lately. Its unfortunate that not only the Costa Concordia was a Carnival ship, but now another death aboard a different ship.

When i lived in Daytona Beach, these floor jumping antics were done all of the time from one balcony to another. These young people would drink, get guts and then miscalculate.

I am currently on this cruise, and yes it sucks saving for this trip to have someone who was way to drunk and should of been cut off to ruin it for me and everyone. I do feel bad for the family and will keep them in my prayers. We are headed home with out the stop in Freeport.
