    Bahrain revisited by head of unrest report

    MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) — Senior members of Bahrain's ruling family have met with the head of an independent inquiry that called for reforms in the violence-wracked Gulf nation.

    Thursday's visit by Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni comes more than two months after his group's findings into the deepening unrest between Bahrain's Sunni monarchy and majority Shiites seeking a greater voice in the kingdom's affairs.

    The official Bahrain News Agency says the country's leaders reinforced Bahrain's commitment to address problems listed in the report. They include use of excessive force by police.

    Bahrain is also taking steps to give more political powers to its elected parliament.

    The largest Shiite political group, Al Wefaq, claims authorities have persisted with crackdowns and refuse key demands to give up full control over government.

      I think Bahrain is calm and peaceful at the moment. The media has overblown the incidents and still tries to gain attention by talking about protests which have all but died down, except for the occassional tiny protests in villages. They should not be regarded as headline news. There are incidents happening all over the world in much larger communities and they go unnoticed. Look at India for example, it has hundreds of town and more than billion people, dont tell me there are never altercations between the people and police. Even in the US there are incidents of police brutality and excessive force, but they dont reach headline news.

      As an American who was recently in Bahrain, I hope that they are able to find a peaceful solution to the unrest. I only had two days to explore and it was not enough time. Manama is a beautiful city and the people that I met were incredible. I hope to go back soon.
