‘Banshee’ Co-Creator Signs Overall with HBO and Cinemax
“Banshee” co-creator Jonathan Tropper has closed a two-year overall deal at HBO/Cinemax, Variety has learned.
Under the deal, Tropper will continue to executive produce the Cinemax drama he created with David Schickler. He will also direct an episode of the upcoming fourth season of “Banshee.”
The overall also allows Tropper to grow his production company Tropper Ink with projects for both HBO and Cinemax. He will continue to create, write and executive produce shows, but will also supervise and executive produce projects with other writers and directors.
Tropper’s plate has been full lately. In addition to writing an episode of Terence Winter’s untitled rock ‘n roll project for HBO, he and director Greg Yaitanes recently sold the one-hour drama “American Body Plant” to Cinemax. The two will exec produce the project, which was created by and will be written by Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner.
Tropper is also a novelist and his works include “This Is Where I Leave You,” which he adapted into a film for Warner Bros. His feature career also includes adapting the novel “Priority List” for Warner Bros, Steve Carrell and director David Frankel. His most recent novel and own screenplay adaptation, “One Last Thing Before I Go,” is set up at Paramount with JJ Abram’s Bad Robot producing.
He is represented by UTA, Tobin Babst at Kaplan/Perrone, attorney Fred Toczek and New York literary agent Simon Lipskar at Writers House.
