Barbra Streisand to Lead the Show-Tuney Oscars

Well this is news that's going to make some of you verklempt: Barbra Streisand will be performing at the Oscars in what is shaping up to be a very musical ceremony. The Academy announced today that the legendary Funny Girl star is going to sing on the show for the first time in 36 years on this year's broadcast. Now, Streisand is not connected to any of the big movies this year—her campaign for The Guilt Trip didn't go over too well—but she did have a big year with live performances in 2012, returning to Brooklyn to perform at the newly opened Barclays Center.

All in all, the Oscars are shaping up to be particularly musical-friendly in terms of the ceremony itself. Never mind the fact that Adele is going to sing her Skyfall theme and Norah Jones is going to perform the nominated tune from Ted, but the Academy has also planned a tribute to movie musicals of the last 10 years. That means they are going to "showcase three musical films—'Chicago,' 'Dreamgirls' and 'Les Misérables,'" according to Oscar producers. We had previously heard rumblings about a Les Miz cast performance, and now Catherine Zeta-Jones—who won Best Supporting Actress for Chicago—has confirmed that she will be appearing in some capacity at the ceremony, according to the Telegraph. Might Jennifer Hudson and/or Beyoncé show up to belt a tune from Dreamgirls

Besides that, host Seth MacFarlane has been known to bust out the showtunes. Here's a video of him performing "Ya Got Trouble" from The Music Man

We just hope no one—including MacFarlane—tries to rain on Barbra's parade.
