Oct 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg, outfielder Bryce Harper and first baseman Adam LaRoche each had surgery this week, according to CSNWashington.com. Strasburg, 25, had bone chips removed from his right elbow. He is expected to resume throwing in four to six weeks and should be ready by spring training, barring any setbacks. He had a 3.00 ERA with 191 strikeouts and 56 walks over a career-high 183 innings this season. Harper underwent surgery on his left knee to remove dead tissue and repair the bursa sac. He sustained the injury after crashing into the right-field wall at Dodger Stadium in May. He will also need four to six weeks to recover. The 21-year-old had a batting average of .274 with 20 home runs, 58 RBI and 11 stolen bases over 118 games this season. LaRoche had loose bodies -- usually bone chips -- removed from his left elbow. Likewise, he requires four to six weeks of recovery time. LaRoche, 33, batted .237 with 20 home runs over 152 games this year. - - - Los Angeles Dodgers third-base coach Tim Wallach interviewed for the Detroit Tigers' managerial job on Friday, according to MLive.com. Wallach has two years of managerial experience at the Class AAA level. He played 17 years in the majors. He was selected to five All-Star Games was a three-time Gold Glove third baseman. Wallach played for the Montreal Expos (1980-92), Dodgers (1993-96) and California Angels (1996). He managed the Dodgers' Class AAA affiliate in Albuquerque in 2009-10. He was named the Dodgers' third base coach after the 2010 season. CBSSports.com previously reported that Lloyd McLendon also interviewed for the Tigers' job. He was a coach on Jim Leyland's staff for eight seasons. Leyland announced his retirement this week. - - - The Boston Red Sox announced that right-hander Clay Buchholz will start Game Four of the World Series on Sunday. The St. Louis Cardinals previously announced that right-hander Lance Lynn will start for them. Buchholz's status was questionable because of an unspecified injury concern. He has allowed 10 runs in 16 2/3 innings over three postseason starts. Lynn has surrendered seven runs in 11 2/3 innings over two starts and one relief appearance this postseason. The Cardinals reportedly considered using Game One starter Adam Wainwright on three days' rest. But manager Mike Matheny decided to let Wainwright pitch on regular rest for Game Five.
