Battle of the Week RESULTS: Wonder Woman vs. World War Hulk

Since being selected as our Character of the Month, Wonder Woman has been obliterating her opponents in every edition of the Battle of the Week! She knocked out Beta Ray Bill, defeated Invincible, and took down the Guardians of the Galaxy. For her final round in the segment, we wanted to make her face what is literally her biggest challenge yet: Hulk.

This isn't just savage Hulk, though. To make things interesting, we placed Diana against the version of Hulk we saw in WORLD WAR HULK! The green goliath was by no means lacking intellect and still did everything he could to avoid taking a life. He was able to take on many of Marvel's heroes, but what about Wonder Woman, a powerful Justice Leaguer? Would she be able to subdue the titan with her Lasso of Truth or use her flight and strength to knock her enemy out of the city? Well, the votes are in and it didn't go too well for the DC heroine. According to the voters, Hulk wins!

Even though the voters think Diana would drop the incredibly powerful Beta Ray Bill, a significant majority of them believe she just doesn't have what it takes to earn the clear victory against this incarnation of the Hulk. A whopping 65% sided with the jade giant and 33% supported the amazon. Only 3% thought it's too close to call. Now, it's worth noting some who sided with the Marvel character stated his win wouldn't be easy and it's very easy to understand why Diana could give him all kinds of trouble. Hulk's strength may grow as the fight progresses and his healing factor is very, very impressive, but Diana's combination of stunning speed, strength, skill, flight and gear is sure to make this a fight that's well worth watching. What if she gets the Lasso of Truth around the big guy? How long will her reflexes allow her to dance around her opponent's attacks? How would her hits impact the enormous character? No matter who you're rooting for, it can be a pretty fun match to think about and more than likely wouldn't end after just one clean hit. Let's see what some Viners had to say about this brawl.

"Siding with Hulk on this one. No doubt, WW has the speed advantage but I can see Hulk's durability and healing factor playing a significant role in this. If he finds it too difficult to keep up physically with WW's speed (and he will) he can fall back on his usual omnidirectional gamma imbuded Thunder Clap. I see this giving Hulk the little time he needs to land some heavy hits on the stunned WW. While she is without a doubt a high-tier individual in regards to her durability, a blow from an angry superman did make her blackout, only to be woken up by the heat of reentering the Earth's atmosphere. Hulk has shown he can hit as hard and sometimes even harder that what Supes has occasionally displayed. However this could be hampered by the surrounding civilians, considering both combatants are fully aware of their presence.

WW's gear will also play a role, however, the lasso can only help so much as it has been countered by overcoming the wielder with strength before totally being subdued (ex: Doomsday, and if we look at the N52, Darkseid)

Overall I see Hulk taking the slight majority 6/10."

"If we are going in character and in story line of World War Hulk, then Wonder Woman would actually have this. Not based off of physicals, but based off of who the Hulk is. The WWH story arc ended not at the defeat of the Hulk, but at his own realization of his actions threatening Earth, he asked Iron Man to subdue him and incapacitate him as an unconscious Bruce Banner. This was the Hulk's realization, not other's and so if Wonder Woman could get her lasso on him (which based off of her ability and speed she could) she would be able to talk him back to Bruce Banner. In terms of an all-out brawl she would lose, but she would play it smarter than that."

"I'm definitely going with Hulk.

If this was the regular Savage incarnation I'd be more open-minded but this version definitely takes the cake under these circumstances. First of all, ignoring for a second that this is the most powerful version of the Hulk to date, we should really talk about how, despite his power and durability, this particular Hulk has immense pain resistance and damage soak. This is very crucial to consider since, even with healing factor, characters can still pass out due to extreme pain. Their bodies will heal, but they'll be out of the fight. This won't happen with the Hulk, simply because he can take an insane amount of damage and still stand his ground. Lets go over the evidence:

Even when he was weakened on Sakaar, he took a small nuke to the face to save everyone on the arena.

He had Zom, and extremely power being basically set fireworks in his guts and still managed to keep fighting.

Fought off the spikes and ripped one out of his own chest, despite the fact that these alien parasites basically spread like vines throughout the body.

Hulk basically went up to Zeus with the intention of getting pounded into the ground. Obviously, Zeus would have won either way, but considering that Zeus cheated in his battle with the Hulk by amping up his punches with skyfather juice suggest just how durable the Hulk really is. Plus, as confirmed later, each punched sapped hulks strength, healing rate and durability away, which further emphasizes on the feats greatness.

Second of all, lets not forget that Diana won't be outsmarting this version of the jade giant, considering that as a warrior and a king, he can think more strategically, even more so than professor hulk. He tricked Doctor Strange into letting his guard down, and he let Captain america's team win so he could turn the tide. Basically, while maybe not a genius, he definitely knows his way around the battle, and won't fail to utilize everything at his disposal. Moreover, durability wise, WWH is extremely tough, as you may have guessed, considering he:

took Skaar's kinetically, trillion-ton charged fist to the chest and scoffed it of as if it were nothing.

Resisted transmutation.

Took and shrugged of hercules's punches without showing any visible damage.

Scoffed of a poison that was getting stronger with his own anger.

Was impaled by multiple adamantium shards.

Took red hulks gamma charged nuke attack to the face and laughed it off.

And most importantly shrugged of his son's, Hiro-Kala's, energy old-power blast, which was capable of moving a planet as a spaceship.

And Last but not least, personally I feel that this hulk outclasses Diana in terms of raw power by all accounts. Even as his savage self, Hulk has done some pretty crazy things. I know people love to bring up the Planet moving feat, but Hulk has so far destroyed nightmares small dimension, has broken through a time storm(twice), lifted a mountain when he was weakened, has resisted the wight of a star, has jumpstarted an immensely large space ship so hard that it actually ignited, has brought juggernaut to his knees with two punches(albite I might as well mention that he had lost to juggs even a fight in the previous issue, since he was unaware of who he was), resisted enough force to move the planet out of orbit, etc. Take into account that this was all done as his much weaker incarnations only, if were were to move on to WWH himself then he has held a planet from falling apart without any outside help, beaten hercules to a pulp( yes hercules didn't fight back, but that doesn't turn his durability off, and in 2 punches herc face was bruised), one-shotted the thing, punched skaar so hard that he reached space, fought sentry head on even though bobs energies were constantly calming hulk, floored armageddon, and destroyed a planet when he stopped holding back.

Speaking of which, it's noteworthy to mention that WWH himself mentions that he held back during the Manhatten war, and in an area where civilians are, at the very least, considerably distant, I'm sure he has space to cut loose.

Cheers. :)"

"Interesting to see World War Hulk taking so many votes. For understandable reasons of course but the voting gap is much bigger than I thought it would be. Anyway I'm more inclined to side with Wonder Woman for a majority of victories based on her more appealing, plausible and logically combat practical advantages compared to World War Hulk's.

Firstly, in regards to physicals, I have no problem admitting Hulk has an evident advantage in that regard. But I think a good question here is whether Diana has comparable physicals enough to hurt Hulk and withstand his attacks. In this area, I'd assert she does have the physical stats to stand up to WWH. She's punched Batman (with Superman's powers) from Earth's orbit to the moon, overpowered White Martians (and each one is nearly as powerful as Superman and have defeated multiple groups of DC's heroes before) not to mention that she engaged Konvict during the Trinity mini series written by Kurt Busiek. And Konvict had overpowered the JLA as well as fought evenly with Superman beforehand so this proves Diana is easily a top tier heavy hitter. As for durability, she's tanked nukes without a scratch, survived blows from Orion, Big Barda, Martian Manhunter and even a bloodlusted Superman on several occasions, including the infamous Sacrifice punch from the Sun to the Earth. She's durable enough to withstand several blows from World War Hulk based on her consistent durability showings.

Secondly, we have the absolutely huge gap that is speed. Hulk's physical advantage over Diana is clear but it's nowhere near as astronomical as Diana's speed advantage over World War Hulk. At best, Hulk comes in at street level+ combat speed since he has some trouble hitting street levellers like Spider-Man, Wolverine and Captain America in a fight. It's obvious Hulk can one shot any of them but he clearly cannot tag them straight away. In contrast, Wonder Woman can casually block dozens of bullets whilst blinded by Medusa's venom, deflect Superman's heat vision, hogtie Amazo (who was described in Dwayne McDuffie's JLA run as being faster than Superman and Wonder Woman combined once Wally severed his connection to the Speed Force) and has even managed to tag the speed god that is Wally West on 3 occasions. Thus, it's evident that no matter how angry or strong Hulk gets, that won't mean a thing if he cannot apply that damage to Diana, whose combat speed and reflexes arguably surpass Superman's. That leaves the infamous speed blitz trick available to Diana as a way to defeat WWH. He may hit harder than Diana but she can hit faster and hard enough to hurt him. Beings of comparable strength like Skaar and Sentry have dented WWH so Diana should be able to do the same.

Finally, Wonder Woman is more versatile, tactical and better equipped than WWH. Yeah WWH may be cunning and have combat experience from Sakaar but it pales in comparison to Diana's rigorous Amazon training and teachings. She's used her superior skill to defeat Power Girl when raw physical power and speed wasn't enough. She's skilled enough to spar with Batman on several occasions, even winning some of them (though evidently her physicals may come into play.) In her fight against a mind controlled Superman, she used numerous tactics such as causing a super concussion with her bracelets so a similar tactic could be applied painfully to WWH so as to disorientate him. Combined with her speed edge and WWH's smarts aren't anywhere in Diana's league of combat skill and strategy.

As for equipment, Diana has the magical Bracers forged from Zeus' shield, which can deflect bullets, heat vision and even a blast from the combined might of the Olympian Gods themselves. Moreover, the bracelets project a forcefield around Diana. It's what allowed her to survive blasts from Imperiex Drones as well as punches from Power Girl, Doomsday and Superman. So the gamma blast argument that Hulk fans have used on the battle forums were Hulk willing to use it here can be countered with the proper knowledge of Diana's bracers. Finally, Diana has one final trump card if all else fails; her Lasso of Truth. It's completely unbreakable by mortals, Kryptonians and even gods so Hulk isn't going to have better luck. Whilst Hulk might be able to pull off what Doomsday did in his fight with Diana, I find that possibility extremely unlikely. Diana is fast enough to hogtie Amazo before he could react and Hulk doesn't know what the lasso can do so combined with Diana's vastly superior speed and reflexes, this counts as the most likely way Diana will end her fight with Hulk. He will absolutely not be going Worldbreaker in a populated area and he only cut loose in Las Vegas after the populace was evacuated. Not to mention that when he went Worldbreaker in The Dark Dimension, he asked if anyone was innocent before doing so.

Overall, World War Hulk would win if he could consistently tag Diana in a slug fest. However, Diana is not only strong enough to hurt Hulk, she's way faster than him, more versatile than him in her equipment and more skilled and tactical to incapacitate WWH via a lasso hogtie before he can physically overpower in my opinion.

Thanks for reading :)"

"Being a huge hulk fan, I was initially going to go straight for him (mainly to getting extremely happy seeing him in the battle of the week), after further thought, I voted too close to call.

Both just have so many ways to win, in a straight up fight, hulk should bring down Diana, no questions asked. He undoubtedly has her numbered in physicals, and his durability is just freaking ridiculous. I don't think her significant speed is going to be enough to bring him down. But that's just one scenario, likewise, Diana could use the lasso of truth on Hulk (which I'm not 100% sure would work considering doomsday could get out of it) but fot the sake of arguments let's say it will work.

Then, Hulk always has a chance at going world breaker, depending on what his views are of Diana. If he thinks she's a serious threat to not only him, but earth as a whole, then he won't hold back. And I honestly view world breaker as on a completely different level compared to most powerhouses, so if it does reach that point (which it probably won't in fairness) then I don't see Diana surviving.

Then, you factor in a BFR, something that could happen, but I'm not sure diana would do it. She doesn't know Hulk so from her point of view she'd be throwing a raging brute at possibly another planet for him to tear apart, something I don't think she'd do.

All in all, it really is too close to call in my opinion, factoring in personal bias Id vote for Hulk, but remaining impartial I can't pin down a winner on this one.

(Now if only we could get Hulk as a character of the month).

That's it for Wonder Woman's time in the Battle of the Week! It was just announced that Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin, will be our next Character of the Month, so that means he's the next one to enter this weekly segment! Is there anyone you'd like to see him fight? Tell us below or via Twitter.
