Battle of the Week RESULTS: Wonder Woman vs. Guardians of the Galaxy

Wonder Woman's time as our Character of the Month is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean she's going to get any rest just yet! The whole point of the Battle of the Week is to make you have fun thinking about what would happen if the Character of the Month was forced to fight a character -- or in this case, a team -- they've never met before. So far, Diana has defeated everyone who has dared to stand in her way. Beta Ray Bill gave her trouble, but ultimately fell. Despite his endurance, Invincible was dropped after duking it out with Diana. Now, Wonder Woman comes face to face with the Guardians of the Galaxy! Will the team make Wonder Woman suffer her first defeat or will she continue to overcome anyone that stands in her way? According to the voters, Wonder Woman wins!

The Guardians of the Galaxy may have Wonder Woman outnumbered, but that's not enough to give them an automatic victory. According to the voters, Wonder Woman's walking away from this fight as the winner for a few very specific reasons. First and foremost, her reflexes and skill are critical. Her impressive response time means she'll be able to deflect and block dangerous projectiles with her durable bracelets and her skill means she has no problem flowing from opponent to opponent and even using their own attacks against them. Yes, she's mighty, but her immense skill is something that just can't be overlooked. Secondly, she's a powerhouse and one solid hit can be devastating. Even if she does get tagged, her durability and endurance is way up there; she's not getting taken out of the fight so easily. Last but not least, her gear can play a big role. The Lasso of Truth can restrain anyone, the bracelets can counter firearms, and her sword will have no issue slicing Groot apart. That said, it's probably no walk in the park. Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon are armed with some seriously impressive weaponry, Groot's a heavy-hitter, Gamora's incredibly skilled, and Drax is a savage fighter. Wonder Woman has what it takes to bring this team down, but they have what it takes to make her work for the victory. 43% of the voters sided with Marvel's team and only 3% thought it was too close to call. Wonder Woman earned 54%. Now, let's see what the community had to say about this match.

"The Guardians of the Galaxy have potential, but in a fight against someone like Wonder Woman, their teamwork is too disembodied. Diana will hack away at the team, one member at a time, until there's nothing left. She's too skilled for Drax, too strong for Gamora, and Groot doesn't have the firepower or swiftness to carve an absolute victory. Anything the gun toting duo (Rocket and Starlord) throw will likely be deflected.

Maybe if the the Guardians were all one person, they'd win. As a team, they expose open vulnerabilities."

"GotG wins because of Gamora who was skilled enough in martial arts to impress Thanos not to mention, she has taken down an army (with tanks) with close range combat alone and has one-shotted Thing and She-Hulk at once. Hell, Thanos couldn't even touch her in a sparring match and he even commented that her pressure point strikes would waste a being inferior to himself. Give her the Godslayer and she won't even need her allies to stop Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman may appear as a superior opponent but she isn't going to last against a Marvel villain who is superior to a Galactus herald and has defeated Superman-level characters. And she's dealing with alien-weapon users so there's no shrugging attacks off (she did get killed by an Apokolips spear in Earth 2, after all).

All in all, the Guardians win with 'casualties.'"

"Will have to side with Wonder Woman here. Her bracelets and reflexes should render Star-Lord and RR's weaponry fairly ineffective, and beyond that she'll be one shotting both of them. Drax has proved himself pretty slow, and despite Diana not being as fast as pre-Nu52, she's still shown enough speed to contend with two Kryptonions, meaning she should be able to do to him what Nova did in Annihilation and simply be too fast for him to even be a factor. While Gamora will be a threat, WW is at least as well trained and much stronger (I would say stronger than Angela too, who seemed to have the upper hand in that fight). Even with Groot to help, he won't be recovering fast enough for WW not to keep cutting through him with her atom-cutting sharp sword (just as Angela did).

Even with the team working together, they simply don't hold enough advantages over Diana beyond numbers. If she's able to take hits from First Born, then she's definitely still durable enough to take a few hits from Star Lord and RR too, whilst still being able to continue fighting."

"I'm going to side with the GoTG this one.

Star Lord- Probably the least useful member of the team for this fight, he can provide support from a range, might slow her down a bit.

Rocket Raccoon- Carries even better firepower than Peter, and he makes a plan, if they succeed, it will probably be due to his plan.

Gamora- As skilled as Diana definitely, but she isn't close to as strong, if she's given a chance, she'll carve Diana's heart out with Godslayer

Drax- We never really know where Drax is on the power chart, but presuming he's half as strong, he can do something to slow her down.

Groot- Very underestimated, he can pin Diana in all sorts of ways with his tree growth, he'll be able to injure her too, he's MVP for the team.

Overall I'd give he team a 6.5/10."

"I voted too close to call and here's why.

Wonder Woman outclasses all of them physically one on one, but as a team, this has the potential to go either way.

Gamora, who is physically outclassed, does play a huge role in this fight. She has the skill of Wonder Woman, and the feats to show that she can hang with someone of Wonder Woman's power level. She's tango'd with characters like classic Drax, sparred with Thanos, and stalemated with Ronan the Accuser. She's even used pressure points and nerve strikes on Thing and She-Hulk. Not too long ago, she took on a whole horde of Monsters of Badoon for an entire day, before Angela showed up, and then the deadly duo went on to kill ALL of them.

Since I'm assuming no one really knows or cares about a Monster of Badoon, a little history of the character is needed.

First significant MoB appearance, he is punched by Thing with his strongest punch, and is completely unphased. MoB returns the favor, and knocks the Thing out with one punch.

Next time we see MoB in a significant role, he fights the Silver Surfer. While he loses the fight, he nearly speed blitzes Surfer. Surfer even comments, "If I would have been a micro-second slower, he would have found his quarry". MoB was a microsecond too slow from speed blitzing Surfer. That's some serious speed.

So MoB has some serious physical stats, yet Gamora can fight multiple MoBs for an entire day. I think she can handle Wonder Woman's enhanced stats with her teammates helping her.

Speaking of MoB, Groot fought a gigantic version of the same one that fought Silver Surfer and Thing. Not only did Groot completely dominate the fight, but he punched his head off. Anyone who thinks Groot can only fight slow characters is dead wrong. Not only can he react to characters with super speed, but he can punch their heads off.

Couple this fighting skill with Groot's other advantages like instant healing/growing, dendrokinesis strong enough to restrain the Hulk with tree roots for a short time, and the strength to deliver two of the best physical beatings to Thanos, and you have the most threatening member of the GotG roster to WW.

Groot's one weakness is high quality cutting weapons like Angela's sword, so he has to be careful in a fight like this if Wonder Woman is able to keep Groot concentrating on healing instead of fighting. It's a good thing Groot has his best buddy Rocket to keep the pressure on.

Rocket's guns are incredibly powerful. They completely destroy Badoon battle cruisers in one shot, and he has the accuracy to tag Sam Alexander flying at human rocket speeds. He can definitely keep Wonder Woman on the ropes with his guns.

A lot of people are commenting that Rocket is a glass cannon, but this just is simply not the case. Rocket has a very very very high level of super human durability. While Wonder Woman's sword might be a bit much, he can tank a few punches from her. In Rocket's career, her has tanked attacks from Star Hawk, who is evenly matched with Thor in strength, a speed blitzing Gladiator, and even a shot from his own 5-barreled cannon. As long as Wonder Woman isn't swinging a blade his way, Rocket can survive a single punch if it comes to that.

Drax, who is a powerhouse in his own right, really isn't anywhere near close enough to the power levels needed to do much but be a very stubborn distraction. He'll be the first to go punch for punch with Wonder Woman, which might not be the smartest thing for him to do. This may be enough to at least keep Wonder Woman occupied for a very brief moment, for Rocket to lay down some cover fire, so Groot and Gamora can do their thing.

Star-Lord, while being the weakest of the group, is not a non-factor. The guy has three wins over Thanos under his belt at this point. While all three of those wins come with prep, the important thing to remember about Star-Lord is that he is ALWAYS prepared. His new on-going series has further solidified this fact as he time and time again taken on threats much higher then a normal human (even if they are part Spartax) should be able to take on, by using his wits alone. He always has something up his sleeve, and a lot of times, it just involves putting his allies in the right spot at the right time. He has some powerful allies in this fight, and with his and Rocket's strategic brains, they may just think of something that can take Wonder Woman down.

I'm not forgetting how much more powerful Wonder Woman is then any other individual on the Guardians team, but with their team as a whole, I think they have a shot at this.

Do I think the Guardians win? Not entirely. Do I think they can win? Yes. This is a great battle, and in my opinion, is too close to call."
