BC Ferries cancels sailings between Vancouver Island and mainland

VANCOUVER - BC Ferries has cancelled a ship's afternoon and evening sailings between Vancouver Island and the province's mainland.

Spokeswoman Deborah Marshall says about 600 people were disembarked from the Queen of Coquitlam just after 3 p.m. because of a security incident.

She says BC Ferries has now cancelled the 3:10 p.m. sailing between Nanaimo, B.C., and West Vancouver, B.C, and the ship's 5:20 p.m. return sailing.

Marshall says police dogs will search the vessel.

She says the crew and vehicles remain on the vessel, and passengers are in a waiting room.

Marshall says foot passengers can leave Nanaimo for West Vancouver on a 5:20 p.m. sailing but those with vehicles aboard the vessel will have to wait.
