Benfica wins to increase lead in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Benfica beat Estoril 2-0 at home to increase its lead of the Portuguese league on Sunday after Sporting Lisbon drew 2-2 at Setubal.

Defender Luisao headed in Benfica's opener in the seventh minute, and Rodrigo Moreno doubled the advantage in the 20th from a pass by Guilherme Siqueira.

Benfica extended its winning streak to eight straight games and remained undefeated since the season opener.

"Benfica could have won by three, four or five goals," said Benfica coach Jorge Jesus. "It's normal because I think Benfica has better players."

Sporting appeared to have secured the three points when Adrien Silva converted a penalty in the 86th, but a last-minute penalty saw Ricardo Horta convert for a share of the spoils.

Elsewhere, Ricardo Quaresma scored two goals to help FC Porto rout Arouca 4-1 and end a run of four winless games in all competitions. The much-needed victory came under interim coach Luis Castro, who took over from Paulo Fonseca last week.

Benfica opened up a seven-point gap over Sporting, with Porto another two points behind.
