Bernie Sanders, Michael J. Fox Top Jimmy Kimmel’s Brooklyn Week With One Night To Go
Jimmy Kimmel will get a visit from the World Series-bound New York Mets tonight, joining guest Howard Stern to cap Jimmy Kimmel Live’s week of shows from Brooklyn. The late booking has the Mets showing up on Jimmy Kimmel Live four days before the start of the Series.
To date, Kimmel’s biggest night of his Brooklyn week came Wednesday, when Dem White House hopeful Bernie Sanders impersonated Larry David impersonating Bernie Sanders. Also visiting Kimmel that night: Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd driving on stage in their DeLorean to celebrate Back to the Future Day. The result was Kimmel’s highest rated Wednesday in nearly two years, according to early stats, with an 0.9/4 in the demo in the 25 LPM markets, and a household 2.5/7 in the 56 Metered Markets. In both metrics, JKL was Wednesday’s best rated late night talk show. Kimmel also finished first on Thursday night, featuring Bradley Cooper, Joy Behar and Paul Shaffer. That broadcast tied Kimmel’s highest household rating on a Thursday since President Obama visited on March 12 of this year, besting NBC’s Tonight Show and CBS’s The Late Show, both of which are in repeats this week. That said, both shows are airing some of their most popular recent episodes against Kimmel’s Brooklyn week. That includes Justin Timberlake and Hillary Clinton’s visits to Jimmy Fallon on Tonight – and Donald Trump’s visit airing tonight.
Meanwhile, Late Show has aired John Oliver’s visit with Stephen Colbert, and Amy Schumer’s, and has scheduled Colbert’s Bernie Sanders sit-down for tonight. Monday and Tuesday, Fallon’s repeats topped late night TV in these early stats. Tuesday night, all three late-night shows suffered substantial start delays in New York, as local stations covered a fatal cop shooting; Wednesday night Kimmel’s start time was delayed about 13 minutes for local news coverage of the Mets game that sent them to the Series.
Tuesday night, Kimmel’s numbers may have been dampened, but he delivered maybe his best opening monologue of the week, when Donald Trump canceled that night’s appearance. During that monologue, Kimmel explained Trump’s people had cryptically cited a “major political commitment” when they called to pull the plug about 24 hours earlier.
“I’m dying to find out what this major political commitment was. Usually it means he had to go on CNN and call someone an idiot or something,” Kimmel said. Turning to his EP just off stage, he asked, “We told them there were cameras here, right? Are Tuesday nights the night he volunteers down at the orphanage?”
