Biking, hiking trails linked to Mammoth Cave area, celebration set for Nov. 17

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. - Two trails are being connected in south-central Kentucky allowing bicyclists and hikers to travel the route of the old Mammoth Cave Railroad from Park City to the Mammoth Cave visitor centre.

The connection is being celebrated at a public event at 10:30 a.m. CDT Nov. 17 at the Mentz Hotel in Park City.

Mammoth Cave National Park says the Kentucky Transportation Department linked the trails by including a lane for bicycles and hikers in its reconstruction of the Interstate 65 underpass at Exit 48.

The connection links the nine-mile Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail and the one-mile Park City Bicycle and Walking Path.

Wayside exhibits along the trail describe daily life of families and communities that were at Mammoth Cave before it became a national park in 1941.
