At 22,087 TPM, the end of Clinton's 50-minute-long address Wednesday night beat Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's peak last week in Tampa, but was lower than First Lady Michelle Obama's Tuesday night, according to Twitter's official blog.

The former president got the most reaction while describing U.S. President Obama's job record, with 16,115 tweets per minute. That was followed by his appeals to vote for Obama (15,266 TPM), his "all in this together" statement (15,111 TPM), discussing wife Hillary Clinton's role (14,538 TPM) and his "takes some brass" quip (14,393).

Among the comments, Twitter users chimed in on Clinton's ability to speak without a teleprompter and his Southern drawl.

The word #arithmetic began trending on Twitter after Clinton challenged Romney's budget plan.

"The Romney plan fails the first test of fiscal responsibility: The numbers just don't add up," he said in his nomination speech. "People ask me all the time how we got four surplus budgets. What new ideas did we bring to Washington? I always give a one-word answer: arithmetic."

"President Obama's plan cuts the debt, honors our values, brightens the future of our children, our families and our nation. It's a heck of a lot better. It passes the arithmetic test."

Clinton capped off his speech by hugging Obama -- a moment captured on the president's Twitter feed.

The evening's other top-tweet moments occurred during speeches by women's rights activist Sandra Fluke and Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren who attracted 6,863 TPM and 6,472 TPM, respectively.

By night's end, there had been more than 5.5 million tweets sent about #DNC2012.
