The Black forest fire near Falcon, Colorado has burned over 8,000 acres so far.

FALCON, Colo. -- The Black Forest fire has burned 8,000 acres so far, and nearly 5,000 residents have been evacuated, with many more in a voluntary evacuation situation.

Many evacuees have taken refuge in the Walmart parking lot in Falcon at the intersection of Meridian Road and Woodmen Road. The police had Meridian Road blocked off just past Londonderry Drive, where onlookers pulled over to watch the helicopters fill their containers with water to make their drops. The smoke could be seen for miles, including Colorado Springs, and El Paso County is under another red flag warning today.

This fire comes at the end of another mild winter and a very dry summer last year, which also saw a fire in the Waldo Canyon area. There is no known cause for this fire at this time.
