    Black Ops 2 domain registered by Activision proxy, sparking Call of Duty speculation

    You don’t need to look very far back to understand how Call of Duty: Black Ops was one of the most popular games of 2010. The Treyarch-developed FPS was the most popular Xbox Live game of 2011, managing to keep a top three place in the charts even AFTER Modern Warfare 3 was released. Treyarch is due to take the Duty reins once again in 2012, but will the game be Black Ops 2?

    That’s what some are speculating thanks to a domain registration for BlackOps2.com discovered by Fusible. The domain is owned by MarkMonitor, a company that handles such matters for Call of Duty publisher Activision along with many other big-ticket companies. It’s thin, sure, but it jives with the news from last year that MarkMonitor, again presumably acting on Activision’s behalf, bought up a bunch of Black Ops-related domain names. BlackOps2.com was not among those registrations.

    That domain had in fact been registered in May 2010, not long after Black Ops was announced, for the owner Domains by Proxy, according to Fusible. The news now then is that ownership of BlackOps2.com has transferred from DbP to MarkMonitor.

    None of this in any way points to confirmation that the next Call of Duty game will be called Black Ops 2, or if there will even be one bearing that title. Assuming that MarkMonitor actually did purchase those domains on Activision’s behalf, the most we can really say right now is that it’s probably the publisher trying to protect its brand. Domain registrations happen. The only confirmed fact that we really have to work with is that there will be another Call of Duty game in 2012. Anything else at this point is pure speculation.

      Oh no... no no... The campaign was really fun however multiplayer had so many issues it wasnt even funny. I'm done buying any more Treyarch games. Hell I was a huge fan of MW2. but I'm honestly on the fence about MW3... probably because if you watch the credits, Treyarch was involved. It felt like black ops without even knowing that... they officially blended and coded the 2 games together. MW3 is still good but it doesn't seem the same.

      But really, they are in over their head with Black Ops 2. Create something new. please... don't make a trilogy out of this.

      Already traded in MW3- really some problems with the online play gamemaking - it never seemed to get the teams blalanced and almost every match was a slaughter one way or the other which isn't any fun. Already moved on. Might buy the next but I doubt it. Just more of the same

      man i used to be excited for the release date for CoD2, CoD4 and World at War and i was hesitant about getting black ops, but now seeing that they are making a bank out of one of my favorite video game series makes me sad and im sticking to the cods i already have.

      The main things they have to do to even make me consider buying are to:-NEW ENGINE no more #$%$ "improvements"-DEDICATED SERVERS like Gears of War and battlefield, no more bad hosts-Something new (very broad but generally gets my point across)-Last but not least zombies =)

      going to be honest, many are hating on this but lets be real, who expects them NOT to do a sequel to a mega blockbuster?

      MW3 was a huge letdown. Good thing Battlefield 3 and Skyrim have filled in my gaming void for the winter.

      I actually liked BlackOps but if Activision goes the same trend like MW3 and just brings out the same game but with worst maps I will pass on it.

      I was a avid COD 2-4, MW 1-3 player, then I played Battlefield 3 and havn't touched my MW3 disc. BF3 FTW

      Black Ops 2? why do we need another Black Ops? I think they need to create another Call of Duty World at War and call it World at War 2 instead. I have played all the call of duty games and call of duty 4 was probably the best but World at war was awesome as well.

      No matter what, Acti will just deliver a cookie-cutter FPS game like they have the last few years.

      And because it is geared to be so effing casual and simple, people will buy it up by the truckloads.

      I miss the shooters of the old days. Where working with your team was how you got by. You actually had to think back then.
