BlackBerry services hit in Latin America, India

LONDON (AP) — BlackBerry's woes spread on Tuesday as the smartphone's maker reported service disruptions for a second straight day in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and fresh problems in Latin America and India.

Research in Motion Ltd., which makes BlackBerry devices, acknowledged there were ongoing problems Tuesday, hours after it said services were operating normally and the cause of delays in subscriber services a day earlier had been resolved.

"Some users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, India, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are experiencing messaging and browsing delays," the company said in a statement, adding that it is "working to restore normal service as quickly as possible."

Research in Motion Ltd. also apologized for "any inconvenience," as Twitter and the Internet lit up with condemnation over a delayed response to problems some users had reported for hours.

In Britain, Vodafone UK told customers via Twitter that service was not fully restored. Rival T-Mobile UK blamed "a European-wide outage on the BlackBerry network" which it said was affecting all mobile operators. There were also reports of problems elsewhere in Europe, such as Spain.

In addition, the disruptions were experienced in the Middle East and Africa.

Etisalat, which operates in the United Arab Emirates, apologized for "the further interruption" to Blackberry services, "once again due to RIM problems."

And Kenya's Safaricom Ltd. said on Twitter that its Blackberry customers were experiencing a "technical fault," while South Africa's Vodacom told subscribers the issues were affecting multiple networks and countries.

There were no reports of any problems in the U.S.

Angry smartphone users took to Twitter to vent frustration with the company and bemoaned the loss of their messaging capabilities, questioning why the company took so long to restore services.

Nice to see all the Apple lover putting down the BB. A couple service disruptions a year for the BB and the media is all over them. On a DAILY basis I am with Iphone users you can't get email or texting because the applt network isn't working..but my BB always seems to be getting its messages, texts, and RRS feeds just fine. Apple fans just refuse to admit that Apple products are not perfect - but then every 6-months go out and buy the new improved verision, do I hear Iphone 4 (basically a software upgrade) and by Xmas the Iphone 5.

Sorry to tell the truth, but BB's are FARRRRRRR more reliable when it comes to the intended use of a phones. If you really want to spend your time surfing the net on your 4 inch Iphone screen enjoy yourself, I will use my laptop.

Apples only real claim to fame are all the apps, but how many apps do you need to tell you the temp or road conditions - one. By the way, the Apple app store is soon to be oblolete (as are all app stores), html 5 is here, the web is being redesigned to fit on any screen.

Jobs (and Gates) are the best marketing geniuses of our time, although Gates did actually create his own product, whereas Jobs have never actually developed anything, he just knew how to package things so the lemmings of the work would throw their money at him. Sorry to upset Apple fans, but personal computers, user friendly O/S, lap tops, cell phones, MP3 players, and even cell phone apps were ALL invented by other people/organizations.

Only Lemmings own an over priced Apple product.

      THIS MAKES SENSE TO ME!!!!!!

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best
quotes I've heard in all this drama about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law
that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all
sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only
3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That
was in 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to
become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty
people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the
message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

      With reference to: Solar Activity
This is a real issue only to get worse in the coming months. The solar activity has been the highest I have witnessed in my whole life. The strange thing is that it was very calm last year. Be prepared for more of this to come.

I can't tell you how much i now hate my BB. It was great and I've had BB's since 2000 (had the old text pager to start with) -but once you get beyound text/email and phone calls the bb is an old hag. There are far too many other things out there that do that better and faster

I never liked the strawberry network concept anyway. Guess, the US is not affected since they do not monopolize the networks and control them (big Brother style). Maybe it's the Syrian government, with help from the Chinese and the Russian ( ex KGB). Just trying to keep the power and control over the weak masses.

Rather sounds like one of the Arab countries that want to monitor BB's encrypted calls is disrupting the network instead. Fortunately for them they don't have to worry about tapping a if-one or Droid.

so glad I dumped my POS Storm for a Bionic. BB service sucks. RIM's products suck.

My expert opinion is I would suspect that Solar Activity is to blame. Or that your satellites are outdated or are not sheilded enough to withstand the current coronal mass ejections. This is not an isolated case and your entire system is being affected not just one zone or area. You may want to try and reboot your systems.

I am one of blackberry users, I feel that my blackberry is not valuable any more without the operator's service. Two days left without the blackberry service, hope that it will not take more days and the reasons behind this failure can be controlled in the future and avoide further disconnection.
