Bra Expert Linda Becker Says Sizes Are a Scam

ABC News' Bianna Golodryga, Mary Pflum and Taylor Behrendt report:

Linda Becker, also known as the "bra lady," says that if your bra is anything like your life, you probably need a little more support than you're getting.

Becker has dedicated her life to providing support for women across the country who might not know that they are wearing an incorrect bra size.

"I realized all the companies about 10 years ago changed all the sizes without telling us," Becker told ABC News. "[They] vanity sized it, they wanted you to think your back was smaller and your breasts were bigger."

In other words, what once was a 36-D is now called a 32-G. So, how can you make sure you get the right fit?

"They should always be halfway between your elbow and your shoulder, if you look in the mirror and you are lower than that, then your bra is too loose in the back," Becker said.

She also advises that women be fitted by a professional. Becker says it's also a good idea to replace your bras every six months.

To lengthen the life of your bra, she says, start wearing it at the loosest hook, then tightening it over time.

Becker also says there's no need to wash in between each use. You can wear a bra up to seven or eight times before cleaning it.

In terms of fit, "It doesn't matter if you spend $10,000s on an outfit; if your bra isn't right, it doesn't look good," she said.

As Becker notes, this is all proof that beauty might be skin deep, but support is priceless.
