Meet Your Mate at the Gate

Meet Your Mate at the Gate (ABC News)

First came social seating, enabling travelers to sit next to people with similar interests in flight.

And then came the infamous Miss Travel, which had the travel industry asking "Dating site or prostitution?"

And now, we've discovered MeetAtTheAirport.com. Which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

According to the web site's homepage, the site is "A new concept in online dating and personals. The usual dating sites connect you with people in your area, so you always see the same men and women on the website. We have created a new dating and personals site that connects people worldwide through airports. Date or make friends with people in other cities or even countries. Travel to new and exciting places or meet someone while waiting for your flight. Meet single men and single women. What better way is there to pass the time if you have a delayed flight?"

The web site claims that in "two easy steps" you can be part of the "airport social network." The sign up process asks questions about hair color, eye color, ethnicity, height and "body type." It asks about drinking (how much), smoking (how often) and then asks users to select from a list of hobbies that interest them. In addition to the typical running, cooking, yoga options, there's also the option to select horticulture, Motorcross and playing cards.

Once registered, the site asks you to enter information about your next flight. Presumably, it takes that information to search for matches.

Site owner Steven Pasternack said that while successful airport matches have been made, there haven't been any marriages yet. But, he said, " it's fairly new and I'm sure it's just a matter of time."
