Newt Gingrich Says Mitt Romney 'Mislead' Country, But Would Still Endorse Him If He's the Nominee

He has called Mitt Romney a “liar” who “misled the entire country” in last week’s debate. But that won’t keep Newt Gingrich from endorsing Romney should he become the Republican nominee for president.

“I think reelecting Obama is a disaster and I’ll certainly endorse the Republican nominee. But I think that Mitt Romney will have a very, very hard time differentiating himself [from Obama],” Gingrich told me this morning on “GMA.”

Gingrich, who only a week ago was riding high from his South Carolina victory, is now plunging in the polls. The front page of USA Today shows Gingrich trailing Obama by 14% while Romney is in a statistical tie with the president.

But in the 24 hours before Floridians hit the polls Gingrich is making his case against nominating a man who he thinks is too moderate for the electorate.

“We nominated a moderate in 1996, he got beaten badly. We nominated a moderate in 2008, he got beaten badly. I know that the establishment would love to nominate Romney and they want to make him electable so they can beat [Obama] in the Fall,” he said. “But I think the record of ’96 and 2008 is you better have a conservative who can draw a really wide gap.”

Gingrich said he’s the man to do it and pointed to what billionaire George Soros told Reuters last week that “either you’ll have an extremist conservative, be it Gingrich or Santorum, in which case I think it will make a big difference which of the two comes in. If it’s between Obama and Romney, there isn’t all that much difference except for the crowd that they bring with them.”

“There are a lot of parallels between these two guys. Romneycare and Obamacare are essentially the same. He can bury me for a very short amount of time with four or five or six times as much money, most of it raised on Wall Street from the guys who got bailouts from the government,” Gingrich told me. “In the long run the Republican Party is not going to nominate the founder of Romneycare, a liberal Republican who is pro-abortion, pro-gun control and pro-tax increases.”

    “Ain’t gonna happen,” he added

Ron Paul is the man with no corporate media coverage because he is not a bought man. He is a man for the people. He voted against NDAA, SOPA and The Patriot Act. He wants Americans brought home and to strength the economy.

I have to agree... Dr. Ron Paul is a man of principle. By the by, did you see where the military is downsizing and bringing some of the units home... sounds like what Dr. Paul has been suggesting for a long time.
      • John 3 mths ago
Sorry... only difference is, the units left over there, will be stretched really thin. NOT good idea.

The ultimate hypocrisy and it's not just Newt. By making that statement he nullifies any shred of credibility he might have. It would appear that he would endorse the Antichrist (Romney's life mirrors that of Damien in the Omen) if it came down to Romney getting the nomination. Having labeled him a liar, tax cheat and numerous other things; does he believe these are the qualities of an American leader? The GOP wants Obama out, but they haven't put anyone before their voters that hasn't been labeled as unqualified by their own people. Where is the GOP leadership and why haven't they done a better job of vetting these candidates? Though McCain has weighed in for Romney; it would seem others only weigh in against Gingrich. Congressional campaigns should be very interesting this year, given they haven't a Presidential candidate they want to identify with.

Not to mention, i can just imagine how confused you'll be trying to figure out how in Gods name could they possibly have won! ( then you'll say ) They must have cheated, its the only way

George if any of the current four GOP candidates win in November it will only mean the Mayan Calendar's foretelling of a cataclysmic event occurring on 12/21/12 will come true, because it would take hell freezing over for it to happen. In the event hell does freeze over neither of the front runners in the GOP will be able to generate enough hot air to thaw DC in the winter (and yes they would have cheated to win).

This proves AstroNewt's pure lack of any kind of moral substance. He thinks someone is a liar but says he would endorse him none the less !!! And he wants us to believe he has sufficient character to lead our country ?!?!?!?
      • bamalady 3 mths ago
Because the person that Romney would be up against has mislead the Country even more than Romney. What he is saying is that IF it is between Romney and Obama, there won't be a great choice but, Romney would be the better choice

I'm tired of "sides" like many others and sick of over paid, under worked politicians who're into self service not public service. They're paid a 6 figure income, vote their own raises/bonuses, get recess we haven't since childhood, government paid credit card, can lie, cheat, steal from their job and never get fired and still not do the job they're paid to do. Than they have a "committee" to oversee a "committee" and some of these parasites are paid AGAIN to serve on those, to do a job THEY were paid to do to begin with! I'm all for many different opinions, BUT, when they are unable to work with someone because of it, which is a basic skill you learn as a child, than it's time to find people who are WILLING to put in the time and effort AND GET THE JOB DONE FOR AMERICANS, not themselves!

This is a shining example of the "tribal" attitude that is doing the most harm to this country. You villify someone because he is your rival, but you would support him in an election against someone from the "other tribe" simply because he is from "your tribe." Both sides are guilty of this, but it seems that the right does it far more often and far more passionately. It is wrong, and it is the biggest cuplrit in destroying the foundation of freedom in America.

If you're going to write headlines in the adult world, learn how to spell. "Mislead" is present tense; "misled" is past tense.
    • T  •  3 mths ago
Why would anyone endorse a person for President if they know that person has mislead the people of America.... That says Newt doesn't care who runs America as long as they are a Republican.... It also says Newt doesn't care about America himself.

      Old Man America
Currently, we have the lowest effective pool of presidential candidates our nation has seen in decades. This is exceptionally embarrassing to me. But, Mr. Gingrich fails to admit that he made some very serious errors in judgment which cost American taxpayers a great deal.

I'm so fed up with old men that have unequivocally failed my nation for two centuries and still expect that I will listen to what they have to say as if they are somehow wiser than me.

      Moon base?

Go to a retirement home, Mr. Gingrich and do get that mental therapy that you so obviously require.

Leave the national leadership to those who demonstrate actual intellect and demonstrable care by their conduct for the United States younger generations who will carry on without your "wisdom" or your "history lesson".

Take Old Man Congress with ye, Sir.

So, Newt says that he would endorse a liar because a liar would be the best candidate. Great integrity in the Republican. I used to think that the Republican Party and I differed philosophically only. I know see huge differences that go FAR beyond philosophical issues.

Get rid of many tax loop holes for rich and companies and make the playing field fair. If they were investing then where are the jobs? Stop the greed in Washington.

Lying stories....all about these three candidates. Truth is, Newt and Santorum are unelectable. They did not get enough signatures to be on the ballots of 5 states. Well, in the case of Newt, he did get enough signatures, but they were proven to be forged, fraudulent. But they keep the real man from being talked about.

Ron Paul is the best candidate for keeping us safe and reducing our debt. Other countries don't want our troops patrolling their neighborhoods. They don't want U.S. embassys or the U.S. way of doing things forced down their throats. Smart Republicans (there are few) will vote Paul

Did anyone watch the State of the Union address? Obama stated that he is going to start investigating China's currency manipulation, give tax breaks to companies that keep jobs in the USA, tax the heck out of companies that outsource jobs, start a veteran job corps to help our troops get jobs when they return home, he bashed wall street+China, and he said he would sign a bill that STOPS INSIDER TRADING BY MEMBERS OF CONGRESS!!! If you really care about the USA, call your local representative+ask if they support these changes!!! That's the only way Obama could get them on his desk. You think any other candidate would have the balls to stop insider trading by members of Congress? Romney changes his position like underwear! You really want someone like that in our highest office?

When your candidate starts talking MOON BASE or "open marriages" or having children work as janitors at their own schools, I think you might want to consider a new candidates or at least make sure a village is not missing its idiot.
