Parents of 'Adolf Hitler' Lose Custody of Newborn

Heath and Deborah Campbell, the New Jersey parents of three children with Nazi-inspired names, lost custody of their fourth child 17 hours after he was born, the Express-Times of Lehigh Valley, Pa., reported.

Hons Campbell was taken into custody by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services late Thursday night after the doctor who delivered the baby called the agency, the paper reported.

“There’s no legal binding court order. It’s basically a kidnapping, but they use different terms,” Heath Campbell told the Express-Times.

The Campbell family stepped into the spotlight in December 2008 when a ShopRite grovery store declined to decorate a birthday cake for their son Adolf Hitler Campbell’s third birthday.

The state took custody of Adolf, along with his sisters JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Himler Jeannie Campbell, in January of 2009. The three children have remained in foster care ever since.

A DYFS spokesperson told ABCNews.com in 2009 that she could not comment on a specific case, but said children are only taken into custody if there is a suspicion of abuse or neglect.

“We would never remove a child simply based on their name,” the spokeswoman said.

Neighbor Lori Dilts told ABCNews.com at the time the children were taken that it was certainly not because of their names.

“Those children look outwardly healthy, but they didn’t have much freedom,” Dilts said.  “Occasionally, the little boy would come over here and would hate having to go back to his house.”

The couple’s attorney, Pasquale Giannetta, told The Associated Press that a  court a hearing has been scheduled for Monday to determine the custody status of the newborn.

ABC News’ Russell Goldman contributed to this report.

I don't think the kids should have been taken. I think they should've just kept watch over them. I think you should be able to name your child. America is supposed to be this glorious free place, right?

I agree with sandy theer parents are idots..why would someone like so much hate an drama. its like they redid history or like what happen to the jews. if they took their kids away for there names its wrong but for the abuse its the right thing.

What part of "Children are only taken into custody if there is a suspicion of abuse or neglect.
We would never remove a child simply based on their name," don't you people understand? Oh wait, you probably didn't even bother reading the article, just made some assumption based off the headline. Maybe *you* shouldn't have children.

maybe we don't have the right to tell them what to name their child - but shouldn't a parent take into consideration the emotional damage that a name like that will bring on a child... even though it's not the child's fault their parents gave them the name? Isn't keeping your child emotionally safe and healthy just as important as their physical well being? I don't see how giving you child a name that pays homage to a man that killed millions of people for no reason demonstrates good parenting…

I agree with Bluejay on this one. Dispite those names and the poeple that have used them in the past shouldnt mean that we should be able to tell someone what to name their child. Its like so we cant name someone bill because of the killer Buffalo Bill i mean really poeple come on

Regardless of whether or not a certain name is familiar or holds negative connotations, what right do you have to tell me what I can and cannot name my child. That's right you don't! If I wanna name my son Hitler, Stalin or Lenin, I will.

I don't know what's worse: Naming your kids with Nazi-inspired names, or being a Neo-Nazi and not knowing how to spell "Himmler!"

Instead of the naming children after Nazi leaders, they should change their own normal sounding names. To use their own children to advertise their nazi propaganda is inexcusable.

Funny how the parents have such normal names but they give their children names that will only inspire ridicule and bullying. If they liked those names so much, then why not legally change their names to those?

Just because you can breed doesn't always mean you should.

      {"'Those children look outwardly healthy, but they didn’t have much freedom,' [the neighbor] said".}
How many of us would want for our neighbor to be the only source of info published about us?

So why write a story if you only put the who, what, and when in it? Where is the "why"?
    • Love it or leave it  •  3 mths ago
What did they do??? why run this article and not mention the reason for the governments action.
    • Jo  •  3 mths ago
It is great that in the US you can legally change your name when of majority age.

And yet the Westboro Baptist Church is allowed to keep their children and brainwash them--putting them in danger by having them stand in public holding signs and wearing shirts that say "God hates f@gs" and "Thank God for dead soldiers". Yea...that makes sense.

Note that the article doesn't say anything about evidence for the charges...

THe fact that people make political statement tools out of their chidren makes me sick. As an adult, you have a right, I suppose, to be as crazy and opinionated as you want....AS LONG AS YOU DONT HURT SOMEONE ELSE.

When you screw up an innocent childs life because of your own priorities, you better be ready for trouble.
