Shark Attack Leaves American Dead in Australia

An American man was killed today after a shark attack off Western Australia, authorities said.

A witness saw a “large amount of bubbles” before the man floated up to the surface, Western Australia Police Sgt. Gerry Cassidy told The Associated Press.

The 32-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was on a work visa when fatal attack occurred off Rottnest Island, near Perth, authorities said.

Other witnesses said the shark appeared to be a 10-foot great white, The AP reported.

“Within an hour of that situation occurring the Fisheries Minister [Norman Moore] and the State Government authorised that the shark be caught and destroyed, if possible, and the fisheries officers are now attempting to do that,” Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

It is  unclear whether this is the same shark that is believed to have killed a 64-year-old man on Oct. 10 off Perth’s Cottesloe Beach, authorities told the AP.

Beans . . . agreed. Just stay out of the water. Humans invade other animals' territory, are maimed and/or killed. Big surprize !!!
I'm sorry a man died, but don't kill the shark. You have no right to kill any other animal. Just give them their space.

i watched the show shark men. The Dr on that show said it is absolutely possible that one shark could be possible for several attacks on humans inone area. He called them rogue sharks. The lady on Gma this morning was wrong. If that is the case the shark is highly dangerous to humans in that area.

Cruel. No need to hunt down and kill the shark.
