Watch Dramatic Footage From Inside Plane Plunging Into the Ocean (ABC News)

The dramatic images of a small plane crash in December that killed one person off the coast of Hawaii were made public today.

A passenger was recording video as the Dec. 11 crash occurred.

In the images, the Makani Kai Air's 2002 Cessna Grand Caravan turboprop can be seen about to hit the water. It descends straight down to the ocean and crashes on the surface.

C. Phillip Hollstein Jr., then 70, of Hawaii, was one of nine people on board.

The lone engine on the small plane had failed right after takeoff from the island of Molokai as it headed toward Honolulu, he told the Associated Press on Dec. 13.

The pilot, Clyde Kawasaki, who landed the plane right-side up, had done "everything by the numbers," Hollstein said.

"He set it up for the best crash-landing you could do," he told the AP. "There wasn't panic or anything. It was very orderly. It wasn't like any of the movies or the TV shows."

In the video, the passengers can be seen making their way out calmly. They clutched the wing to stay afloat. In two groups, they floated for an hour in choppy waters till they were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Hollstein reportedly swam to shore.

One person died - Hawaiian health official Loretta Fuddy.

The owner of the Makani Kai Air said the plane had no previous problems.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
