Is This the World's Angriest Cat?

Everyone knows about a "Smelly Cat" thanks to song lyrics made famous by Lisa Kudrow's character Phoebe Buffay on the hit sitcom "Friends." Now, what about an "angry cat"?

That moniker is now being claimed by a Seattle furball whose owner's postings of his fiery expressions on Facebook has led to him being dubbed not just angry, but the angriest cat in the world.

The cat's name is Colonel Meow and his owner is Anne Marie Avey, a 28-year-old cat lover in Seattle who adopted Colonel from Petco last year after he was rescued from the side of the road by the Himalayan and Persian Society.

Colonel's seemingly permanent frown buried beneath his fluffy black and gray fur amused Avey so much that she decided to share her pet's funny body language with the rest of the world.

"I just wake up every morning and I can barely think and I look over at him and he makes me laugh out loud," Avey told today.

"He's just staring at me," she said. "It's one of those moments where every time I look at him I get a chuckle and I thought that should be shared with everybody.

In August, Avey created a Colonel Meow Facebook page featuring photos of Colonel along with captions written, supposedly, in his own words, addressed to his followers, or "minions."

With captions like, "Behold, Minions! I have learned to touch my nose with my tongue. Now honor my great achievement…with treaties and scotch," and "You had better of made some food for me…or else I will destroy you, Minion," the page has turned Colonel into a viral hit.

The Facebook page for Colonel, who will celebrate his one-year "adoption birthday" Oct. 11, already has nearly 40,000 likes. A YouTube video in which Colonel Meow calls on his followers to "Like me on Facebook, Minions," has been viewed nearly 170,000 times in less than two weeks.

"I am completely amazed," Avey said of her grumpy cat's following. "I naively didn't know you could get so much attention based on Facebook. I just did it for friends and family to see what we were up to everyday and get a feel for Colonel. I thought it was a big deal when we were up to 166 likes and half of them were people I didn't know."

Using the hashtag #spreadthefrown, Colonel Meow does not hold his opinions back on his Facebook page. "The Ellen Degeneres Show," scotch and "treaties" are among his likes, while, apologies to Robert Pattinson fans, "Twilight, is most definitely not.

In real life, according to Avey, Colonel is actually an easygoing cat and just looks, she says, "grumpy and fluffy and out of control."

In a funny twist of fate, while Colonel may look like one-in-a-million, he actually has a brother who looks just like him. The brother was adopted by a Petco employee around the same time Avey adopted Colonel Meow. The employee saw Avey's Facebook page and contacted her to chuckle over their cats' shared, grumpy resemblance.

"She was like, 'Oh my gosh, I remember you,'" Avey said.

With Colonel Meow's growing fame, his plans for "world domination," another frequent theme on his Facebook page, continue.

Avey says that the next small step towards world domination will be Colonel Meow t-shirts available soon for the "minions" who just can't get enough of this angry cat. After that, Colonel, Avey and Avey's boyfriend, Eric, who helps her update the Facebook page, are eyeing the White House.

"There are plans to run for president," Avey said. "We'll be accepting write-ins on the ballot."
