Mobile app for iPhone and iPad cited for “simple, uncluttered and beautiful” design that rises above the crowd

The Yahoo! Weather App for iPhones and iPads, launched in late April, has been selected as the winner of a 2013 Apple Design Award, it was announced today. Renowned for its dedication to outstanding design, Apple began the award program in 1997. According to the company’s award website, “The Apple Design Awards recognize apps that raise the bar in design, technology and innovation.”

We’re thrilled that Apple, the media, and our users around the world have responded so well to the Yahoo! Weather App. The release of this and several other new and enhanced apps has helped attract millions more mobile users in the first quarter of this year.

Here’s the full write-up on the app from the Apple website: “Yahoo! Weather stands apart with its simple, uncluttered, and beautiful visual design. This highly-rated app displays weather details with stunning photography based on time of day, location, and current conditions. Yahoo! Weather has great layout and typography, compelling animations, fast image processing, and clear iconography. This attention to detail means that in a saturated category, an app can rise above the crowd. Yahoo! Weather is available in 30 languages and optimized for all current iOS devices.”
