Christiane Amanpour’s Journey in the Footsteps of Moses

This week on “Around the World,” we have another exclusive sneak preview of Christiane Amanpour’s very personal journey for her two-part ABC News special, “Back to the Beginning.”

It’s a journey in the footsteps of Moses, who received the tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments, in one of the most well-known stories from the Bible. Christiane and her 12-year-old son Darius travel to the Sinai Desert in Egypt where the current political situation makes for a perilous hours-long trip through the arid plains. Setting out in the middle of the night, they make the arduous trek up to the 7,500-foot peak of Mount Sinai, still a challenge for the modern-day traveler.

“Back to the Beginning” is a journey back in time to explore the history and the mysteries of some of the oldest stories ever told: those of Abraham and Moses, King David and Jesus. Christiane and Darius visit the great sites common to the three monotheistic faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In exploring the ancient stories, they embark on an experience that takes them from the remotest corners of Turkey through the Middle East and even to the American heartland.

Tune in to the second part of “Back to the Beginning” on your local ABC station on Friday, Dec. 28 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. The first part of the miniseries can be found at

Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao has a plan in place if yet another bid to fight Floyd Mayweather fails -- a May 30 bout, possibly against England's Amir Khan. Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum told ESPN that a backup plan if a hoped-for May 2 blockbuster against unbeaten US star Mayweather falls through is a fight four weeks later in Las Vegas, New York, London or Abu Dhabi. "A lot of places around the world want to host a Manny Pacquiao fight," Arum said. Arum also told ESPN that Khan, a former welterweight champion, is the leading candidate, although Khan would also be a top contender to fight Mayweather if Pacquiao is not his choice.

Liverpool scent Chelsea blood as Wembley looms

With Chelsea reeling from FA Cup humiliation, Liverpool will visit Stamford Bridge for their League Cup semi-final second leg on Tuesday with increased confidence of reaching the final. Liverpool were unfortunate not to emerge victorious from last week's first leg at Anfield, drawing 1-1, and they will scent blood after Chelsea were bundled out of the FA Cup by third-tier Bradford City on Saturday. Liverpool's own FA Cup tie did not go quite according to plan, a 0-0 draw with Championship side Bolton Wanderers leaving them with an unwanted replay, but they were at least spared the embarrassment that befell Chelsea.
