Beautiful Atlanta mansion of multi-talented NFL star Hines Ward

    Mike Benzie, Yahoo! Atlanta Editor

It's great for most involved that the NFL lockout ended, but if it had to continue, at least NFL star and Atlanta native Hines Ward would have been comfy. His custom-made dream home in north Atlanta was featured recently in Atlanta Magazine, and it's pretty spectacular.

    >> Follow Yahoo! Atlanta on Twitter.

Ward told Atlanta Magazine writer Lisa Mowry that he's a big fan of HGTV, and he apparently played a big role in designing the mansion. He asked Atlanta designer and personal confidante Anthony Lacy to help him build his "final house," his "dream house."

The wide receiver said he kept in constant contact with the builders, even using "real-time, on-site" video conferencing while he was with the Steelers.

Ward, a former UGA star who has won two Super Bowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers, had an eventful offseason. He was crowned "Dancing With the Stars" champion in May. While in Los Angeles, he was pulled over and ordered out of the car at gunpoint in a late-night misunderstanding that was quickly resolved. In July, Ward was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence in DeKalb County. That case is pending.

Ward was sidelined for part of training camp with a thumb injury, but is now back on the field.

Several photos of the home are below, and the entire photo gallery (courtesy of Atlanta photographer Emily Followill) can be seen here.

Ward's terrace level includes a pool room, weight room, poker room, bar, and a couple of television lounges -- not to mention the nearby "grotto" with an outdoor jacuzzi. Photos by Emily Followill.

I wonder if certain humans had a son, nephew, best friend or grandson who played hockey, (do pucks count-not a ball though) swam in the Olympics & winning many gold medals, QB like Farve, made baskets like M. Jordan or pitched like J. Smoltz, and he wanted to build a home for you & your family. (They played in one of these sports) PLEASE, you'd grab those keys to your new house so fast. Maybe you could have made it playing ping pong. So stop being so narrow-minded! HINES WARD KEEP DANCING, WE KNOW YOUR MOM & FAMILY ARE PROUD. YOU SURE MADE CLAYTON CO. FOLKS PROUD!! By the way, who invented/created these sports??

There is nothing wrong with a double wide if thats what you can afford. Alot of people would love to live in a home like this but just cant. Why fault the man who can, he has worked for and earned his success no need in jealous. God has blessed this man with a home just like he blessed you with an apartment, double wide or whatever just be grateful and hopefully one day you will reach his success.

Hey Astar Hines doesn't own a corporation. That argument could work if he owned one of these huge conglomerates. He earned his money as an employee of a football club.

Wow, pretty tasteless on so many levels. The house alone is bad. Flaunting this level of income for playing with a ball while so many hard working Americans are struggling to stay afloat. And the ego, gross.

If you gonna read an article just to bash it why dont you do the intelligent world a favor by just killing yourself now. The only ones with something negative to say live in double wides or their mothers basement. Beautiful house so enjoy it. After all he's the one paying for it, not you....

I am content living in tent here on earth as look forward to a mansion of gold not built with hands in glory that will last for ever. Can't have both, you either have one and lose the other. I chose to wait.
