San Francisco Is Under Siege Making a Bat Call Cry for Help as Bat Kid Saves the Day

San Francisco was under siege this morning when the Bat call went out and a pint-sized Caped Crusader arrived in the Bat mobile...it’s Batkid!

An estimated 13,000 people gathered in the transformed Gotham City to cheer on the mini superhero who has battled evils before. Behind the mask is 5 year old Miles Scott, a leukemia survivor from Tulelake, California.

He was diagnosed at 18 months and just finished his last chemotherapy treatment in June, and had an ambitious dream to be his favorite superhero, Batman.

So the Make-A-Wish Foundation made it happen. Thousands responded to set up fake crimes for Miles to solve and several local actors dressed as Batman to help fight the bad guys, like the Riddler robbing a nearby bank. Batman and Batkid rushed to the scene to take on their archenemy.

Patricia Wilson is the Executive Director of the Bay Area Make-A-Wish foundation. “There have been plenty of superhero wishes that Make-A-Wish has had, nothing like this has happened.”

The outpouring here has been tremendous, there are tens of thousands gathered to cheer on Batkid. The Chief of Police says they had to turn away volunteers

“This is far beyond any of our expectations and it's crazy how big it's gotten,” says BatKid’s dad.

For capturing the villains, Batkid got the key to the city made of chocolate, the superhero's favorite.
