Reese Witherspoon on Ryan Phillippe Divorce: My Brain Was 'Scrambled Eggs'

Remember when Reese Witherspoon and Ryan

Phillippe were Hollywood's golden couple? Fans were devastated when their marriage came to an end in 2007, but as much as you may remember how upset you were at the news, it didn't rattle anyone as much as, well, Reese and Ryan.

In a new 60 Minutes interview, the actress opens up about the hard time personally and professionally she had after taking home the Oscar for Walk the Line. Months after her Best Actress win, Reese and Ryan split after eight years of marriage.

"I spent a few years just trying to feel better... you can't really be creative when you feel like your brain is scrambled eggs," Witherspoon, 38, says in an interview airing Sunday on CBS.

"I was just kind of floundering career-wise... I wasn't making things I was passionate about," she continues. "And it was really clear that audiences weren't responding to anything I was putting out there."

A few movies made during that time were Rendition, Four Christmases, How Do You Know, and Water for Elephants. On the flip side, Reese was finding happiness behind the scenes. In 2011, she tied the knot with power agent Jim Toth and gave birth to their son, Tennessee, the following year.

Reese's low point professionally came in 2012 when The New Yorker included her on a list of actors no longer relevant.

"I thought I was reading, like, a profile on another actor," Witherspoon recalls of the article that was about Ben Stiller. "Then somewhere down at the end it said... 'the people who are washed-up' — I mean, it really hurt my feelings."

Witherspoon was included alongside Keanu Reeves, Mel Gibson, Demi Moore, Tom Hanks, Russell Crowe, Nicolas Cage, and John Travolta.

With Wild out on Friday and Reese firmly standing strong in this year's Oscar race, it's safe to say the tide has turned.
