So far law-enforcement officials have carried out approximately 1,000 arrests since the Occupy Wall Street protests began in September, and it was only a matter of time before an enterprising, tech-savvy Turk seized the opportunity.
Jason Van Anden, a Brooklyn-based software developer, has created an app called "I'm Getting Arrested" that allows protesters detained by police to alert friends via text on a mass scale.
The free app--which has been downloaded more than 9,000 times since its release earlier this month--is currently available on the Android platform. According to Van Anden, a version of the app for Apple's iPhone is currently in the works.
