Fox’s Conrad Murray trial app already top-ranked in the App Store

HLN isn't the only major media operation looking to tap public interest in the Conrad Murray trial for a shot of ratings.

Fox Television has launched a mobile application dedicated to the case against Michael Jackson's doctor. The 99-cent app--available for both Android and Apple devices--features live-streaming coverage of the trial via KTTV 11, Fox's Los Angeles affiliate. The app also includes live and recorded local news segments, photo galleries, court documents and other trial-related content--even footage from Jackson's last-ever rehearsal, from the Staples Center on June 24, 2010, the day before his death.

Within two days of its release, the "Michael Jackson Doctor Trial" app was the top-ranked for-pay news application in Apple's App Store, and 75th overall.

The June ruling that permitted cameras in the courtroom during Murray's trial made the decision to develop the app a no brainer, Fox TV digital news VP Jose Rios told Broadcasting & Cable, while also giving Fox programmers plenty of time to design and execute the app.
