Is Fox mulling an all-Simpsons cable channel?

Would you watch a cable channel dedicated to "The Simpsons"? Chase Carey, chief operating officer at Fox parent News Corp., thinks you might.

Earlier this week at a media conference sponsored by the Bank of America and Merrill Lynch, Carey hinted at such a possibility. Asked about it again on Wednesday at the Goldman Sachs' Communicopia Conference in New York, Carey wouldn't rule it out.

"I wouldn't say we're drawing up plans to have a 'Simpsons' channel," Carey said of the long-running cartoon. "But, you know, there are a lot of 'Simpsons' fans out there."

The show, now in its 23rd season, brings in millions for Fox, both in advertising and syndication--the latter of which would conflict with a "Simpsons TV" launch, at least for a year, when those deals expire.

Still, Carey indicated the idea isn't so far fetched.

"We think there is a bigger opportunity than just a second syndication cycle," he said. "We have an opportunity to do something truly unique."

As Homer might say, "Woo-hoo!"
