Fox News gives Glenn Beck’s temporary replacement a permanent slot

Fox News' temporary replacement for Glenn Beck has become a permanent one. "The Five" and its panel of lesser-known personalities will continue in the 5 p.m. slot, the network announced on Monday.

As The Cutline noted last week, Fox executives--including Fox News chief Roger Ailes, who created it--were pleased with how much of Beck's audience the show has managed to retain. Beck averaged 1.6 million total viewers in June, its last full month on the air. "The Five" was watched by 1.4 million, according to Nielsen.

In a release, Fox News ad sales VP Paul Rittenberg took a swipe at Beck--whose last year at the network was marked by some advertisers distancing themselves from his increasingly outspoken views.

"'The Five's' viewership growth and unique appeal has led to the time period once again being embraced by FNC's Blue Chip advertisers," Rittenberg said.
