Murdochs agree to testify in phone hacking case

After initially declining a request by Parliament, News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch and his son, James, have agreed to appear alongside embattled News International chief Rebekah Brooks next week to answer questions from British lawmakers who are renewing inquiries into the News of the World phone hacking case.

Brooks and the Murdochs will appear before the select committee on Tuesday afternoon in London.

The decision by the Murdochs to appear comes as members of Parliament were mulling their options regarding the inquiry. As U.S. citizens, Rupert and James were not compelled to appear.

Brooks, a U.K. citizen, had no choice.
