Will Newt run? Press keeps asking

Newt Gingrich said on "Meet the Press" Sunday that he'll decide on whether or not to run for president in 2012 by around February or March of next year. The Gingrich comment quickly got picked up by other news outlets, despite the fact that it wasn't anything really new.

Salon's Justin Elliott dug through the archives and found that Gingrich has said essentially the same thing in 20 separate interviews and yet it's still treated as news each time. Here's Gingrich on Sunday:

Betsy Fischer, executive producer of "Meet the Press," responded to Elliott' story over Twitter.

"Always better to ask, than not," Fischer said. "Ya never know. Just a lesson I've learned a few times." She then noted that President Obama first hinted at running for president on the top-rated Sunday show.
