Teen booked on Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show in coma after skateboard accident

A teenager who was booked to be a guest on Anderson Cooper's new daytime talk show is in a coma after injuring himself while filming himself skateboarding for one of the show's producers.

According to Gawker's John Cook, the producer asked the teen--whose name has not been released--to "film the crazy stuff you do."

According to a representative for "Anderson," the unaired show was going to focus on the science of the teenage minds and risky behavior, based on a National Geographic article on the same topic.

"Our producers were working with a teen and his parents," the show said in a statement. "As part of our routine process, we ask guests for video footage and photos. We did not provide the family with a camera. On the morning that they were supposed to travel to New York, we learned that the teen had been injured. We are very concerned about him, and are thinking of him and his family at this time."

Cooper released his own statement on the incident:

I was very saddened to hear the news of this accident, and want to express my deepest concerns for the teenager who was injured. I take this situation seriously, and my thoughts and prayers for his health, well-being and recovery are with him and his family.

Incidents related to daytime talk shows that trade in sensationalism are nothing new. As NBC's Peter Alexander noted on the "Today" show, a guest on Nancy Grace's show--Melinda Duckett--committed suicide after taping an interview about her son's disappearance. Duckett shot herself the day the interview was scheduled to air.

A lawsuit was subsequently filed by Duckett's estate against Grace. It was eventually settled out of court.
