Whitey Bulger may have been working on memoirs, prosecutors say

James "Whitey" Bulger, the infamous Boston crime boss who was arrested last summer after 16 years on the run, may have written a pair of memoirs, prosecutors say.

According to the Boston Globe, investigators found what appear to be two autobiographies purportedly penned by Bulger during searches of the gangster's residences in Santa Monica, Calif., and Boston.

One, entitled "My Life in the Irish Mafia Wars," was seized in 1995 shortly after a federal warrant was issued for Bulger's arrest. The document was found in the Boston home he shared with his former girlfriend, Teresa Stanley, prosecutors said.

The other was recovered from Bulger's Santa Monica apartment last June after FBI agents captured Bulger and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig.

Stanley, though, told the Globe that she would be surprised if Bulger had actually written them.

"I never even saw him write in a journal or anything," Stanley told the paper.

Bulger is thought to have inspired Jack Nicholson's character in "The Departed."

Investigators also uncovered a photo that appears to prove Bulger visited Las Vegas while evading capture.

The findings were disclosed in court filings on Tuesday. Bulger's trial is scheduled to begin in November, when he'll face charges of racketeering and murder. Bulger is accused of killing 19 people.
