Chris Brown cancels Canadian summer shows after being dropped from festival

A Canadian festival has cancelled American R&B performer Chris Brown as their headliner because he has "personal and health-related issues," according to organizers.

The Energy Rush festival invited Chris Brown as the main act for its events in Halifax, Toronto, Saint John and Winnipeg this summer, according to CBC News. His scheduled appearance lead to outrage from Halifax residents, including the mayor, because of Brown's conviction for assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

Sponsors such as Rogers and Molson Coors Brewing Co. pulled their support for the festival, according to the Globe and Mail.

Now Energy Rush has dropped Brown and postponed the concert until next year, but the organizers cited the reason as health-related.

Chris Brown also cancelled a concert in Guyana in Nov. 2012 after locals protested that he wasn't welcome in the country, according to the Associated Press.
