Dexter the cat helps his dog pal escape the kitchen

Daily Buzz

Intrepid cat Dexter didn't need opposable thumbs to mastermind a kitchen escape for himself and his canine friend Gizmo, just a twist of the paws and a dash of cattitude.

In a video posted last week that's been viewed more than half a million times, Dexter circles his scratching post a few times while Gizmo waits anxiously, then pops open the door separating the kitchen from the rest of the house, letting the dog dash out first.

The pets were in the home of Matt Hurst in Sheffield, U.K., according to the BBC.

"Couldn't figure out how the animals were letting themselves into the house while at work. Had to find out," the video description says.

In response to comments that the animals shouldn't be locked in a room all day, Hurst responded that the kitchen is bigger than it looks in the video, and there is a flap on another door that leads outdoors.

"They are not 'locked in,'" he wrote.

But they are mischievous.

Another recent dog escape video posted by Andrew Holzberger has been viewed more than 7.5 million times. Holzberger's friend's anxious dog, Bandit, stages a desperate, scrambling escape through a small gap in a boarded up serving window in this September video.
