Sirens and a police officer might not create the most romantic marriage proposal ever staged, but a man in St. John, NB, is hoping the wacky way he chose to propose will win him and his fiancée an extravagant big day.
Bejamin Vienneau had a police officer fake arrest his girlfriend Marcia Belyea, threaten her with $2,000 in fines or 30 days in jail, and then offer to drop the charges if she accepted Vienneau's marriage proposal. Crying and overwhelmed, Belyea said yes, and she didn't even slap him.
Vienneau later told the CBC he didn't expect the prank to go as far as it had, and he didn't plan for his girlfriend to end up crying before one of the happiest moments of her life.
But the proposal video has more than 21,000 views on YouTube. If Belyea and Vienneau earn more votes than the other nine couples competing in Country 94.1 FM's contest to win a $20,000 wedding, Vienneau figures he'll be able to more than make up for proposing to his girlfriend as she sat in the back seat of a police cruiser.
