A University of Wisconsin student is munching his way through his degree with a bottomless stomach that's earned him the nickname "Silo" in competitive eating circles.

Associated Press reported Eric Dahl, a computer engineering student, has earned more than $18,000 in money and merchandise by entering competitive eating contests, and he's using the money to pay for his education.

Dahl told the news wire he realized the potential of his iron stomach two years ago, when a steakhouse offered a free cheese steak sandwich to any customer who could eat it in less than 10 minutes. From there it became swallowing nine pulled-pork sandwiches in six minutes, and now Dahl is ranked third best among "food warriors" by All Pro Eating.

Associated Press reported Dahl eats mounds of cabbage and broccoli — up to 10 pounds in a single sitting — to stretch his stomach, and he exercises often to maintain a healthy weight.

He finished fourth in a national pizza eating contest at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this weekend after eating 8.9 pizza slices in 10 minutes, according to the Daily Cardinal.

“It’s really that seven- to 10-minute mark, because your stomach is screaming at you, ‘What are you doing?’ and you just have to work through that,” Dahl told the Daily Cardinal.

The winner of Saturday's pizza-eating contest, Molly Schuyler, ate a world record-breaking 12.9 slices in 10 minutes, the Daily Cardinal reported.
