    Hillary Clinton promotes American jobs

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hosted international women's business leaders Jan. 24, 2012. (Pablo Martinez …Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will kick off the next phase in her recent initiative to mobilize the State Department and U.S. diplomatic corps to promote American jobs. On Tuesday, Clinton will address some 200 U.S. company executives at a two-day global business conference hosted by the State Department.

"It's clear there's a yearning and appetite to use the State Department even more aggressively than we've used it in the past to help promote American jobs," Deputy Secretary of State Tom Nides told journalists in a phone call Friday previewing the Global Business Conference.

In attendance will be executives from some 200 U.S. companies working in 120 countries.  Boeing CEO James McNerny will be there along with executives from Cargill, Estee Lauder and Qualcomm. Vice President Joe Biden will also make an appearance.

"Every agency in this government needs to be focused on job creation," Nides said.  "And the State Department is uniquely positioned to do that because of our footprint, because of our expertise, because of the people on the ground."

Clinton originally laid out her vision for "economic statecraft" in a speech in October. The address called on American diplomats to make advancing U.S. economic interests a central mission of the U.S. foreign policy agenda. Aides say Clinton sees her "doctrine on economic statecraft" as a key legacy of her tenure as Secretary of State.

And promoting U.S. jobs certainly wouldn't hurt her resume should she pursue the position of World Bank president. Current World Bank president Robert Zoellick last week announced his plans to retire in June. Clinton along with former White House economic advisor Larry Summers have been rumored to be potential successors. But, Clinton aides insist they don't see any signs of that.

The US Government spent years giving away big incentives for companies to ship jobs out of the country... why are they now acting like they played no part in the massive job losses in the USA over the last decade?
      • Anointed27 3 mths ago
Because it was the GOP that did it.... and you still vote for them

Perhaps Hillary can explain how NAFTA caused an economic boom in the U.S. For moving companies maybe, as all the jobs moved out of the country. But maybe she knows more about creating jobs than we do, and that's why NAFTA works so well for us.
      • Deana D 3 mths ago
I bet she know a lot more about it than you do. Yeh, I'd bet my paycheck on it.
      • Scott 3 mths ago
There were many jobs that left for no other reason that cheaper operating expenses.. Nothing to do with NAFTA.. Mostly UAW manufacturing jobs moved under NAFTA.. Look at how many Chrysler products are assembled in Mexico now.

How about the Shovel ready jods like --- U.S.A.Bridges and Roads Being Built by Chinese Firms with Chinese labor!!!! (ABC was actually reporting this story.)
      • DLH 3 mths ago
The main structures of the New San Francisco bay bridge was built in China. Wonder what happens with the first big earthquake when it is done?
      • Mark 3 mths ago
A lot of things in the US are manufactured in China nowadays. Why would parts for our bridges be so surprising? I would imagine they make a lot of parts for the road equipment like graters and dump trucks too. Maybe parts of the air conditioner on top your child's public school was made in China. If you look, you could find things built in China that are now sitting in the Capitol building and White House! Worn a ballcap lately? I sense you are trying to make something out of nothing.

Now, for a solution to start getting those jobs and manufacturing back here. Some discussion in that area might benefit us better. Got any ideas? Some say we have to compete with the rest of the world (makes sense). Some say we could give incentives to US companies (Obama State of Union Address suggestion) to give preferences to American workers. I would like to hear your ideas.

Barack Hussein Obama's so-called "Stimulus" Bill cost the taxpayer $278,000 per job!! And most of these were only temporary jobs!

Wanna promote American jobs? Stop outsourcing jobs overseas! Bring American jobs back to the US so Americans can support their families and our government!
      • Deana D 3 mths ago
Like, omg, that is like, totally so right. you are like so smart. No one ever thought of that before. You should be the president.
      • simple 3 mths ago
I think we all know that however, it's too expensive to produce goods here. Company want bigger profit so they are outsourcing jobs overseas. People in Asia work for $200 per month.
      • Mark 3 mths ago
Linda, How do we get companies to stop outsourcing? They are mostly looking at dollars only. Our standard of living is so much higher than the rest of the world's labor force. Most of us do not share housing with our relatives or even carpool, much less ride public transit unless it is already the best solution. Should we lower our standards to the same as the rest of the world? Ouch. Maybe we should invest more in the training that companies are saying is needed these days...engineers, technicians, sciences. With colleges raising tuition 10% annually for the last 5 - 8 years makes it extremely difficult for any americans to go to college these days.
Maybe corporate incentives or penalties might help. I do know it will take more than throwing money at corporations. They already have money. It is the american worker who does not have any. I am hoping americans can quit blaming the problem on Bush and Obama or Republicans and Democrats and start working together to put people back to work. Both sides have good ideas and both sides have bad ideas. Have we completely lost our ability to reason with one another? For america's future, I sure hope not.

If America is courting foreign countries to get Americans jobs, how about we export about 40 million illegal immigrant laborers ? I think that a contribution of that kind would be welcome
by the world. Lets send the available workers where they are needed !
    • Neetsie  •  Boulder, Colorado  •  3 mths ago
American workers are the most productive in the world, Bring back our jobs. And penalize companies that send jobs elsewhere at the expense of our economic well being.
    • KeyboardMania  •  Warren, Oregon  •  3 mths ago
If Americans wanted to keep jobs in the USA instead of shipping them overseas, they had to chance when they could have voted for Ross Perot or Ralph Nader.
But they didn't did they? No. They voted for the flag waving, slick talking con men the idiots always vote for. You have yourself to blame America.

If glass stegall was not repelled, we would be in better shape. If NAFTA did not go through we would be ok. Maybe, if we get rid of the politicians we would be ok.
    • Rod  •  Mosinee, Wisconsin  •  3 mths ago
This is such crap. This is the political machine jumping on the bandwagon. The administration sees some good numbers on job growth and they want to jump in and say, "Look at what we are doing to bring jobs back to the US". The reason jobs are coming back to the US is a simple concept you learn in your first year MBA classes and it has nothing to do with the government. The weak dollar is spurring investment from global companies, plain and simple. As soon as the economy recovers and the dollar is strong again, you will start to see the export of jobs again. We went through this for about the last 15-20 years sending jobs overseas because the dollar was so strong. As soon as it went weak, ie #$%$ economy, they will come back. It makes sense that when the dollar is strong relative to foreign curency, then producing in foreign countries gets you more for your dollar. When the dollar sucks, your foreign currency goes further in the US. Simple #$%$ but the uneducated American public will believe the government had something to do with this. Their only involvement was the hand they had in driving the economy into the #$%$ with the mortgage loan debacle.

These bozos on both sides can say allot but you see very little in the line of real quality action. All empty words and UN globalist law. For years everything both sides have done has destroyed us more and more.

That's all we need, another governmental idiot trying to fix the economy. When is America gonna wise up and realize that people like Hillary and King Barry know NOTHING about the private sector economy? I mean, to be fair, how WOULD they know? they've both been on the government tit their entire lives so..........time to send them packing in November!

    • Dicky  •  3 mths ago
Since her hubby Billy Boy & his comrade Newt were the ones most responsible for outsourcing our manufacturing to Clinton administration & red DNC campaign boosters communist china, which also outsourced our manufacturing, Hillary can start reversing the destructive policies by:

Since the US has stringent quality control and expensive environmental, diversity, human rights, and labor laws, that communist China does not have to abide by, stick a big fat DEMOCRACY TAX on countries like the monsters from China, who do not treat the environment, animals, their workers, citizens, democratically. That Democracy tax can then level the playing field a bit, and help fund the enormous Babylonian bureaucracy which the US government has become, and reduce the enormous tax burden on its struggling citizens.

Explain how Hillary Clinton can create jobs. The last jobs she created were for the workmen who had to fix the White House offices that her staff plundered when they moved out.
