Stasi disguise photo exhibit goes on display

Nostalgic for the Cold War?

A Berlin art gallery has opened an exhibit of photographs from the archives of the Stasi, the dreaded former East German secret police.

Among the trove is a collection of images from the Stasi's course "the art of disguise," featuring the fur hats, leather jackets, sun glasses, and other accoutrement officers thought suitable to wear to discreetly conduct their secret policing.

Berlin artist Simon Menner came upon the photos while doing research in the Stasi's archives, Germany's Der Spiegel reports.

The exhibit runs at Berlin's Morgen Contemporary gallery through August 20.
