Katie's Take

It’s been almost one year since the horrific events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary, and Katie spoke with teacher Kaitlin Roig-Debellis – who hid with her 15 students and ultimately saved their lives that day. Kaitlin was an honoree at Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year event.

“How did you have the presence of mind to usher your kids to safety that horrible day?” Katie asked.

“I did what anyone would have done,” Kaitlin said, “I wanted us to survive, and so for me the choice was we needed to hide.”

Kaitlin decided to use the outpouring and support from outside the community to help her kids in a unique way.

“I brought a box in front of them one day and I said ‘These are things for us to use at recess.’ Why did somebody do this?”

The kids understood that others wanted them to be happy – and so Kaitlin and her students used that idea to pay it forward.

  • It’s hard to find a job these days, and on top of that, it’s even harder to know the rights and wrongs when it comes to what you should wear to a job interview – if you should get one.

Style expert Daisy Lewellyn and author of Never Pay Retail Again: Shop Smart Spend Less Look Your Best Ever stopped by “Katie Classified” to help three young women figure it all out.

“We just learned how to make the right first impression on your resume, but once it gets you in the door, could your look be holding you back?” Katie asked. “How long does it take for them [executives and managers] to judge your appearance and your look?”

Watch the video clip above to figure out where you might be going wrong. Here’s a hint: diamonds on your nails and loud jewelry could be doing you in.

  • Canadian singer Avril Lavigne - who busted onto the scene with loose neckties and black eyeliner has grown up.
She’s not the punky 17-year old girl she once was - she’s now a punky 29 year old woman. Her new self titled album is her 5th, and she shows no signs of slowing down.

“It’s very me. It’s so diverse, Avril said, all the sounds and styles from the past – that’s there.

She also experimented and grown. She has a song titled “Hello Kitty” which is more electronic, and a little more upbeat compared to her usual “break up”, “boy-bashing” hits.

“I’m not a teenager anymore,” she added. “There’s something there for everyone.”

Avril also recently married Chad Kroeger, from the band Nickelback in the south of France.
The bride wore black – black eye make-up, black nail polish and of course a black dress. Oh, and there was a black cake…maybe she hasn’t changed too much.

She did however receive a white diamond ring – which you have to see to believe.
