Katie's Take
  • He can sing, dance and act. What will Joseph Gordon-Levitt pull out of his sleeve next?

Katie Couric sat down with the actor who stars, writes and directs his latest film "Don Jon" to talk about his many upcoming projects.

"Do you think you might want to do a musical one day? Because obviously, you've got the music in you," Katie asked.

The answer was yes: "I love musical movies," said Gordon-Levitt.

And with his open collaborative production company hitRECord, Gordon-Levitt will be directing a variety show set to air in January.

"It's hard to compare it to anything on TV," he said. "The closest I've come is 'Sesame Street' - but not for kids."

In addition to his TV and film work, "JGL" (if that's not a thing - it should be) is also releasing a book: "The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories."

Thousands of artist contributions went into the making of this book before being whittled down to 67 selections.

  • Mariska Hargitay plays a Special Victims Unit detective on TV, but life started imitating art when she started receiving letters from victims of abuse.

“I was getting fan mail from survivors of sexual assault,” she said, “These letters just started pouring in every day -- and I’m feeling like why isn’t everyone talking about this?”

Hargitay knew that something had to be done, so she started the Joyful Heart Foundation in 2004.

The foundation’s mission is to heal, educate and empower victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse and to shed light on the darkness that surrounds these issues. The foundation has three main missions -- healing and wellness, advocacy and policy (where the organization works to help change the laws to support victims better) and education and awareness.

“Why are we blaming survivors when the blame and the stigma belongs to the perpetrator?” Hargitay asked.

While there are so many things that can be done to help victims of abuse, and while many feel

  • Kate Gosselin is back, this time with a cookbook, and she invited Katie Couric over to her Pennsylvania home to get an inside look at what her life is like these days. Hint: it included pizza and tug of war.

"Can I just say, I've never been so exhausted in my life," Katie said, after experiencing the hectic Gosselin household.

As for why Gosselin decided to write her new cookbook "Love Is In The Mix," the answer is simple. She may not be a trained chef, but she is a mom who loves to cook. She also knows what kids love to eat -- and with a test audience of eight, who wouldn't?

"I'm not a chef, I don't chop properly," she said, "(The kids) are definitely super excited about it, they helped me."

With all of her time spent raising eight children, Kate is not too sure she will be getting married any time soon, but she is interested in dating.

"Would you like to one day get married?" Katie asked.

"You saw the chaos. That is so not for the faint of heart," Kate noted.

But she did give a tip to all
