    If you are fighting the dreaded battle of the bulge, it may have less to do with your willpower to hit the gym and eat low fat foods and more to do with your hormones. Marjorie Nolan Cohn, National Spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and author of The Belly Fat Fix, says the secret to maintaining a health weight may be in balancing your hormones by giving yourself a hunger hormone makeover.

    “Hormones play a role not only in weight gain but in our inability to lose weight once we’re already overweight or obese,” Nolan Cohn says.

    There are two different types of hormones at play here: one that makes you feel hungry and one that makes you feel satiated.

    Ghrelin is a hunger-stimulating hormone that also controls metabolism and thirst. But if you are hoping to take matters into your own hands and completely “shut off” this hormone and its effects, Nolan Cohn says that you are out of luck; but that you can be creative with it.

    If you are like most Americans you probably wake up in the morning feeling like you didn’t really sleep at all. Perhaps you spent the night tossing and turning, fighting for space on the bed or struggling to tune out the distractions. One of those distractions might just be you. Snoring by both you and your partner may not only be keeping you up at night but it could also be contributing to problems with your health.

    David Jack, a wellness coach and contributing editor at Men’s Health Magazine, says that many couples that experience inadequate sleep as a result of one person’s snoring often find larger problems in the relationship. “[Sleep] is a root of wellness,” Jack says. “Good sleep is so important and there are so many people struggling with it to the point that it is affecting their daily life, but it is also affecting their relationship.”

    You don’t have to pay high-end prices to get professional-looking gourmet cupcakes at home. Sisters Katherine Berman and Sophie LaMontagne, co-founders of the popular Georgetown Cupcake bake shop and are stars of the hit TLC show, DC Cupcakes, share their creative tips to turn your cupcakes from bland to mini works of art.
