David Hasselhoff Releases Ridiculous 1980s Mash-Up Video 'True Survivor'

by Jon San

Actor and pop culture superstar David Hasselhoff just released what might be the most '80s-tastic music video ever, and this time and this time only, this sentiment is meant as a compliment.

The music video is called "True Survivor" and was created as a tie-in to the upcoming indie film Kung Fury. The Hoff unfortunately is not starring in the movie, although it likely won't think stop people from seeing it.

The insane plot is a mash-up of every stereotypical '80s movie, and summing it up is nearly impossible. Apparently, time travel, Vikings, dinosaurs, Nazis, mutants and more are all involved in the over-the-top production.

If that sounds like your idea of a good time, other people think so too. Through the power of crowdfunding, Kung Fury has raised over $630,000 on Kickstarter and will be released online in late May.

As for David Hasselhoff, he's promoting "True Survivor" using a more specific strategy – spamming A-list musicians on Twitter.

So far, he's tweeted the same message at Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Drake, Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris, Coldplay and more. Unsurprisingly, nobody responded - except for Jared Leto, who was pretty excited.

Fans of The Hoff know this isn't his first awesomely rad music video. His high-flying cover of the 1968 hit "Hooked on a Feeling" is truly a master class on how to use a green screen.

And this weekend, we’ve got you covered with some awesome streaming concerts on Yahoo Live. Tonight at 7:00 p.m. PT, rock band RX Bandits are playing in Philadelphia, tomorrow reggae group Iration hits the stage also at 7 p.m. PT, and rounding it all out is Cartel, who will be performing Sunday at 6:30 p.m. PT.
