A man returned to his home in Santa Monica, Calif., after a trip and found that his house had been burglarized. But this wasn't just an ordinary "They took my TV!" type of crime. In this case, the crooks made off with more than $10 million in cars, jewelry, paintings and cash.
The victim, investment expert and DoubleLine Capital CEO Jeffrey Gundlach, says he came home and found that his 2010 Porsche Carrera 4S was missing, along with watches, wine and more. Several expensive pieces of artwork were nabbed, as well.
According to reports from CBS affiliate KCAL in Los Angeles, the police are working with the FBI and Interpol to track down the thieves. The fact that the wine and paintings are so rare and can't be sold without raising suspicion may help the investigation. The artwork is by, among others, Jasper Johns, Guy Rose and Piet Mondrian.
It is unknown if the burglars (or burglar) were targeting the house and knew what they were getting or if they simply stumbled into it. The Santa Monica Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves. Gundlach is offering an additional $200,000.
